Isner now has played in the 2 longest open tennis matches in history. His 2010 Wimbledon match against Hubner was by far the longest in open era history at 11 hrs 5 minites, it took 3 days to get it all in.
He's also played in an epic Australian Open match.
If Isner had even a fairly good return of serve, he'd be a multiple winner of Majors. He can ground **** all dayonce he puts the ball in play. and has an all time great serve. He is very weak and the seeve though.
Isner doesn't have the variety in his game that the elite, elite guys have. The very top players all have multiple weapons and can beat you a variety of ways. Isner's primary weapon is a huge one, but his weaknesses are too much for him to overcome against the upper elite guys most of the time. Still a DGD, though, no doubt about it.
Isner is remarkable for both what he can do, and what he can't do.
No player has likely ever had a game seemingly designed to stalemate opponents for near externity, but ultimately fall short.
He's nearly impossible to break,so he won't go down quickly.
He is really bad at returning serves, so he won't often win quickly either. Once the ball is in play he can get to almost any ball and put it back across the net, but he doesn't have a put away shot.
Net result is a combination of both players having low return of serve percentages along with ridiculously long time consuming rallies where neither player can put the other away.
