I think he's one of the few that could potentially live up to being "The next Steph Curry"

in that photo he seems to have gotten a bit "thicker". Good on him.

Steph Curry was a better shooter from day one in The NBA than Trae is ever likely to be.

Where Trae is elite is in passing and penetrating to the basket.

He is 2nd in the NBA in assist per 48 minutes, so obviously he's already there as a passer. His ability to split defenses and get to the basket seems to improve from game to game almost.

The big negative both with Young and the team is defense, this is a truly horrible defensive team right now. If it is going to compete they will have to drastically improve their opponents' points per game. their OPPG is 118.8, that is the worst for ANY NBA TEAM in 28 years...ouch.

It's because Trae, Prince, and Collins just aren't very good individual defenders for their positions. We get hammered on one end, but I guess the plan is to build an offensive juggernaut and just pray other teams miss enough to get some wins

CTD. Prince has the physical tools to be a plus defender, Collins isn't put together to be a low post defender and he doesn't have the mentality for it, but he should be able to defend the 3 and 4 spots if he works at it. Trae is never going to get any longer and he obviously has little interest in playing tight defense.

The highest rated Hawk in advanced defensive metrics right now is Bembry at 189th in the league...woof.

That's... not good. NBA teams can scheme defenses to hide minus-defenders, but that's probably hard to do when half the lineup is a revolving door. It'll take time. There's no expectation for this club to be any good at the end, but get them to around 15th in the league and you'll be looking at a very good basketball team if the offense continues to trend upward.

CTD. you have to have enough good defenders at key positions to cover for weak defenders. Right now Atlanta just doesn't have those players, at least they're not defending well.

This league has been trending away from defense for years, while it grates on my nerves I've come to accept it, Steve Nash and amare stoudemire (best comp for Trae and Collins)dominated for years and neither of them was a good defender. That was back when the league still played defense.
