- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. Do infinitely and indefinitely mean the same thing?

I don't think so.
Sample Statement: "I plan to live "infinitely"!!!!
Doesn't make much sense, does it?

Poor choice of words. Infinite isn't usually associated with time, I don't think. More like a number. I'm sure he meant indefinitely, but it did/does sound weird to my ears the way it was stated.
That was my exact thought when I seen that article...
Thanks guys! Infinitely isn't used as much, and it has a few meanings, among them "boundless, and without limit ... "
Indefinitely is an uncertain amount of time... "Kirby plans to coach indefinitely" --- another day? another week?
No, I chose the word I felt best:
The exclamation points go before the end quote
Holy cow! Is there nothing better to react upon than this? Ya'll are like two squabbling stitches at a bar over whom gets to lick it first. The gist of the article was that CKS is in it for the duration, or infinitely. Indefinitely could mean that, he decides to coach something else, like how to intellectually coach losers how to post on Dawgnation.
I think these discussions are interesting. Having been a writer for the past 30 years and written tens of thousands of stories, it's always interesting to hear what others think about style and word usage. We all have our own perspectives, for sure!
Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) was adopted as the name because the original name "Operation Infinite Justice" was deemed to have a religious connotation to Muslim beliefs.
Now, I know some Dawg fans think that Kirby is divine, but saying he'll coach infinitely......
I always laugh at posts like this. Is your point that the topic is not worth people's time to talk about this? But you obviously think it worthwhile enough to comment on it in the second half of your post.
@MikeGriffith , nice article, keep 'em coming. My understanding is that "indefinitely" acknowledges that the duration will be finite but that he end is not known. "Infinite" would mean it goes to infinity, or the end of time. That is likely not going to be the case here, so "indefinitely" would have been better in my view. Either way, the message was conveyed effectively.
Incorrect. Your understanding is flawed and incorrect. Perhaps you should take your own criticism to heart and find abother conversation in which to share your worthlessness.
Actually, I’m missing a quotation mark, but thanks for trying out.
Which is why it is not the appropriate usage. A mere mortal cannot be boundless. We are all held hostage by time.
Not Kirby! Hahaha, have a great day everyone!
Agree, you could say his desire to be HC is infinite but unless he's very deluded, his plans to be so are indefinite.
The hero in all of this is Mike deflecting this nonsense with laughter and understanding. Kill 'em with kindness @MikeGriffith
It’s humor and poking the bear. @MikeGriffith .can take it, but Im sure he appreciates the extra help from you acting as his protective nanny.
Not sure why you feel compelled to go after me, friend. I'll take your nanny comment as a compliment though, as there are some fantastic nanny figures throughout history. Nanny McPhee, Mrs. Doubtfire, Mary Poppins, the list goes on and on
