Yea, @JeffSentell,
We play Bama in T-town next year in mid-Sep and Auburn in Athens in early Oct; both games could be muggy. I see the Dawgs D being elite next year and any team we play early will have many 3 and outs and their D's will be gassed. Who better than Wren to put a dagger in a tired defense during some key early games next year?
Not to mention that majority of very athletic players can adapt due to their athleticism.
He is probably a rb because most qbs at this level wouldn’t be able to utilize his ability to benefit the team as much as a toss sweep/hand off.
Absolutely a good point. At the HS level Get ball in his hands ASAP.
I have been watching Darnell Washington and Arik Gilbert and there is no comparison on speed, change of direction and route running. In each of those areas Gilbert is clearly superior to DW. Washington may be more of a "team player" and willing to embrace blocking, etc - but it's time to stop saying these are similiar players because they are not. DW is taller by about 2.5" and heavier by about 15lbs - but they don't have the same receiving skills - Washington looks like a Giraffe running and Gilbert more like a bigger cheetah.
Not sure exactly what he was referring to but its being reported that Landers is getting first team reps in practice
I think the point is that he hasn't yet caught a pass in college but is almost being heralded as the next 3* first round pick.
The comp is really more Theo and Gilbert. It’s been said that DW was more traditional while Theo and AG are the more of the flex end.
I'm not making a crude joke here but those 2 1/2 extra inches that DW posses is significant.
Gilbert does seem to be more athletic and he is certainly more polished.
But being a father of an almost 6'6" 14 year old - I understand that it takes those taller kids a little longer to develop athletically.
Also Gilbert should be more polished because he plays HS in Georgia where the coaching, competition and off season will be far superior to Nevada.
I'm not suggesting that Gilbert won't be a better player. Just that DW could possibly be something that has never been seen in football.
I don’t disagree but DW is in Vegas I believe.
You are correct @umooner . Probably the same difference but I went ahead and corrected it. Thank you for letting me know.
Large committing tonight. Def Wisconsin
From the eye test, DW has significantly more reach than Gilbert. Once he polishes up a bit, he's going to be a matchup nightmare.
just respectfully disagree. Just like being taller than 6'5" doesn't help a QB, it doesn't help a TE either. The best TEs tend to be 6'6" or shorter. Look at the best TEs in the game, they aren't as tall as DW. Gilbert is smooth like butter and Washington runs more like a giraffe. I don't want to knock Washington - he just isn't in the same class as Gilbert - he's just not. I'm really surprised that 247 rankings would have those guys that close - #9 and #10 in country last I saw.
Being taller doesn't help a TE?
Try covering a 6'5" TE with a 6' safety. Trust me - being taller helps.
I go back and forth on Arik. He looked absolutely fantastic in that game last week, but sometimes I wonder if that will translate as a WR. He’s not that fast or quick, but he is technical and polished. I’m just not sure (on him as a WR). He looked awful blocking even as a WR too, which makes me wonder about him as a potential TE too.
Mom just spitballing though...I’d take him in a heartbeat.

watch those two videos linked above and tell me the better player - it's not even close.
He's a 3 star that was developed. The kid looks good playing but has drop problems. But I haven't seen a guy as open as him when they are out there on UGA in a long time
It’s clear that Gilbert possesses the best receiving skills, and in the right system, he makes the impact the fastest. Being physical isn’t something you turn off and on, it’s a mindset that these players either have or they don’t. Gilbert will struggle in the SEC with that lack of physicality. And even he personally doesn’t struggle, he’s going to get someone killed if he can’t secure the block.
We know he’s big, we know he’s polished, we know he already possesses the ability to get open at the HS level. The question that can be asked is who’s closest to their ceiling currently? I won’t pretend to know that answer but consider that DW isn’t yet polished, is a better athlete, and isn’t running from what he is. Theo is raw, athletic and willing to learn and be taught the position. Theo is probably the least ready to contribute in the SEC.
Gilbert=immediate impact and most ready to play week 1 2020. DW and Theo probably have the higher upside. All are really good players at the TE position. I wish Gilbert good luck and hopes he chooses the creamsicles since he’s unlikely to choose UGA.
