HINES
So we all know Hines has been talking about wanting to come back and coach at Georgia for years now. Well he just took a job with the jets coaching their receivers. Looks like he’s getting closer to making his goal of coaching at UGA. If Kirby hires him of course.
Comments
Read that over on TOS..... some contrarian thoughts .... yes he is / was THE MAN in his playing career ..... but is he a coach and teacher ?
And he has name recognition and playing chops to recruit .....buttttttt
please consider what Kirby requires from coaches ....
thats is basically their life .....they don’t have a life outside of the grind of coaching ... hours of film all the time .... multiple cell phones with constant recruiting contact twitter FB instant gram etc...
hey he is independently wealthy....he really doesn’t want to grind for a few hundred thou like the other hungry asst coaches .... and Kirby not going to bring him in as a celebrity coach ..... no matter how great it might seem after a few beers .... writing this stone cold sober
Reporters ask Saban yesterday about Jalen Hurts performance in game vs Houston.... Saban said he didn’t watch the game because they work on Sun nights.....think Hines wants to work on Sunday nights ?????
nahhhhhhh
You guys think NFL coaches work less than college coaches????
Yes
Maybe not, but one of the things I’ve heard/read about the attractiveness of the NFL is that it’s about football, and not much else. College is about football, but also a lot of time spent in recruiting. Clearly some guys (like Kirby, Saban, Dell, Dabo, Pittboss) are built for that. Not everyone is.
That is a fair point. I would hate to be a recruiter.
Can’t see him ever being a college coach. Kinda surprised he left the analyst booth
Also I doubt many kids these days would know who he is. I loved him but his highlight reel isn’t the same as someone like ODB or Tyreek Hill. So I don’t think he could recruit based on awe
Difference b/t college and pros ...... recruiting and babysitting
Kirby says he is ALWAYS recruiting...... I take him literally
How do you know he doesn’t want to grind? How do you know he just doesn’t have a deep love for his alma mater? Dude could be an analyst or sitting on his butt right now with the money he’s made. Don’t know if he’s a good coach or a teacher I’d kind of imagine he is. He’s a HOF with a passion for the game. Little short sighted to suggest he doesn’t want to do this and that, unless of course you know him.
Dudes a hall of famer if kids don’t know all he has to say is YouTube my name. I don’t think he could recruit just on his name but he would have more credibility than most if not all.
also recruiting the parents is just as big as recruiting the kid and most dads are definitely going to know who he is.
I'd love to have Hines in some capacity where he could work with players once they are in the program and recruit players while they are on campus. Only official coaches can recruit off campus. Get him prepared and when the WR coach moves along, promote him.
Yea but the kids are the ones making the decisions.
I think all this is moot though. Can’t see him coaching in college any time soon. Too much of a grind. At least in the pros you get some time off
Maybe he’s a grinder? I don’t see it anytime soon either but if it happens I think it’s only a positive for the program
I just think if he ground that way he would already be grinding. Just my grind opinion though
