So if Pollack said the same thing would everyone say they don’t care what he has to say?
Never mind it would probably be Pollack is so anti UGA, he never shows UGA any love.
Pollack is a dgd but still has a job to do. Tebow is a gator but still has a job to do. IMO the only analyst that doesn’t even try to be impartial is Kanell. Spears lets his love for LSU to show more than others but is still pretty impartial.
Wait some people think the offense is too conservative? First I'm hearing of this. Beating dead horses all week. Good thing it doesn't get old. My wish is we only throw the ball 40+ yards downfield all game long vs Tennessee. Let's go Madden on them mf'ers
Bye weeks what are ya gonna do? At least it’s not about tv shows music or alcohol.
Kirby has said his self we need to put the ball in the playmakers hands. I dont care if we are throwing 40 yrd bomb so cager/pickens, little screens to Dom or cook or gashing the defense for 7-8 yrds with DS or Zeus. Whatever puts points on the board and wins games. Going back to 2017 there has been numerous games that could have been a much larger score. I personally love the way our offense works. We average nearly 8 yrds a play. Doesnt take rocket science to know that's a winning recipe. The only thing that hasn't changed is we take our foot of the gas. Plain and simple. We can argue if there was better communication between sanders and Parrish we would have a title but there were other factors in that game that killed momentum and put us in that situation (tyler was onside BTW) facemask to swift, Unsportsmanlike on fromm we can go on and on. If walker doesn't go down in the 4th in atlanta last year or the 15 or so no calls on holding that would have resulted in either a sack on JH or TOL we are back to back SEC champs and playing in the PO. We were up big in both games and we took our foot off their throats. That's my 2 cents, but hey what do I know. That's why I'm sitting on my couch on saturdays and not on the sidelines with a headset on. In kirby we trust. GO DAWGS
IMO all the talk of the offense is a little over blown. ND is a much better team than I gave them credit for and a lot of others on here as well. Do we need to execute better on offense? Yes. I'm liking Coley more than Chaney. Hopefully he learns from the things that didn't work so well against ND. Also helps that most games we only need to score 13 points to win. We should be talking about this D more bc it is championship level.
What Tebow says does matter. Herbstreit has been dissing us. Now Tebow. Our bias against Tebow is irrelevant. The more these talking heads come out against us, the more likely there will be a cumulative effect against us come lDecember. Remember 2007, when the ESPN team talked the pollsters in to rearranging the order of the polls for the BCS selection?
It definitely matters if UGA slips up with a loss. It is funny how the LSU win vs Vandy is viewed as more dominant than the UGA win vs Vandy. Now analytically speaking, more tend to say UGA's win was more dominant...Dawgs scored 5 pts to every 1 pt Vandy scored while LSU only scored 1.74 pts to 1 pt for Vandy. But the perception matters if they Dawgs lose a game. At that point, it could be the deciding factor of being in the CFP or New Years 6 bowl.
A couple of points: first, people shouldn't fear criticism. I could certainly see why some would think we were too conservative, but I'm not worried yet. That was a tough game against a tough opponent and it was a must win for a lot of different reasons. Every game is a chess match and coaches are probing and figuring it out real time. UGA always wants to win the game running the ball. As halftime approached, it became evident we might have to change our tactics because RBU wasn't going to win it. I thought we began to attack pretty well in the 3rd qtr. We got ND on roller skates with tempo, they started faking injuries, and we got ahead by 13. And, the running game became effective, too! There was a sense of desperation in the air for the Irish. At that point in the 4th quarter I think the coaches decided to try to run the clock and win. That's always a tough decision, but it was a tough game and we won.
Second, all of this consternation is a bit premature imo. Florida (Tebow) lost to an unranked Ole Miss team in '08 early, but came back to win the Natty. They changed a lot as a team. There is a lot of football left and Coley will learn a lot, the offense will grow, and hopefully become more effective. Kirby has publicly said he wants us to be more aggressive throwing the ball( a couple of times), and hey, don't miss this point--we have a new OC for a reason.
Not to toot my own horn, but I saw all of this developing. I discussed our need to throw it more in the first three games (before the season), just in case we needed the pass to win against ND, and I have discussed the effectiveness of going tempo (after week two). I also wanted to see more creativity in attacking ND's defense. Having said all of that, I'm very happy with where UGA is right now. When we had to have it, Fromm went to Cager and we got the job done. It was kind of like finishing your homework 5 minutes before class starts, but we got it done. Also, if we won all four games by blowout scores, the Dawgs would be complacent right now. All of this criticism is good. We will get better. Think back to '17. How many people (including the guy you see in the mirror) gave us the remotest chance of beating AU or Bama in the SECCG after the AU 1 no show? We got criticized, but we got a lot better and looked like a totally different team a few weeks later. So, this Dawg fan couldn't be happier with where we are right now because the offense is a work in progress. Let's give Kirby and Coley a chance to adapt.
But against ND we scored 10 points in the 4th quarter, scoring on 2 of the 3 4th quarter drives.
The issues in this game were the first 2 drives. ND did some stuff we hadn't seen this year and it took 2 drives to adjust. After that these were our drives
TD, Punt, FG, FG, TD, FG, Punt... then take a knee.
2017 had a clear weakness (the secondary). The rest was awesome. Bama was able to take advantage of the secondary once Tua came in (so was Oklahoma, but their defense was weak enough we were able to keep score with them).
2018 had a clear weakness... the front 7. The secondary was awesome. We couldn't stop the run or get pressure on the passer. Teams with strong running games (Bama and LSU) gave us problems.
2019... I can't identify a weakness. The Secondary isn't as good as 2018... but it's still very good. The front 7 isn't as good as 2017... but it's still very good. Not having a weak area that offenses can exploit is simply better than being dominant in one area but vulnerable in another.
Tebow? Dude is a moron
The secondary is better than 2018. We were missing our top two corners in the game.
Nicely done.
I truly hate Florida, but I like and admire Tebow as a player, competitor, and motivator. That said, he's just another talking head on the tv.
Between the people who have no understanding of football and those who secretly admire the Air Raid and wish we'd hired Mike Leach it's hard to have real conversations sometimes.
I'm planning to watch the Notre Dame game for the 4th time. It will become a classic game. Our aggressive body blows on both offense and defense were even better than their aggressive body blows. We adsorbed body blows better, too, because we're even tougher than Notre Dame and have even more depth. They have one hëll of a passing game with those huge receivers, but our passing game looks equally impressive and hasn't hit its peak yet.
In terms of how Kirby defines balance and in terms of how I extend his definition of balance to include things like balance in the speed of the game (eating the clock vs up tempo, for example) our game against Notre Dame was incredibly well balanced.
In my view, the passing game can help open up the running game particularly when its preceded by numerous effective body blows. Our second half illustrates this very nicely in my view of it.
Go, Dawgs!
In 2017 Georgia played to protect its freshman QB with two great running backs and its less than stellar defensive backfield. This board had been worried about the defensive backfield all year. In the Natty Georgia had a three point lead in overtime. Alabama was 2nd and 26 when one of Georgias DB’s let a Alabama receiver get behind him. I have a hard time blaming the offense for the loss.
In 2018 Georgia played to protect its front seven. I do not think that Fromm found a receiver he was as comfortable with as Wims. It still had two 1,000 yard running backs. In the SEC championship game Georgia had a comfortable lead when D'Andre Walker who had been disrupting Alabama’s offense the whole game, went down with a injury. By the way I think that Cox transferred after he found out he was running third team and it was only going to get worse.
What I see so far in 2019. Three of Georgia’s top four receivers came in during the summer and have not yet fully been worked into the offense. The other top receiver Demetris Robertson is battling a hamstring injury. The same thing can be said about Eli Wolf who showed up in the summer. As happened in 2018 the offensive line has suffered multiple injuries which have hurt cohesiveness. I do not know what to do about Georgia’s punting problems on special teams but I hope the coaching staff does. This is what let ND keep the game close. If it were not for the two bad punting receptions and two very short punts it would have been a much more comfortable win.
Now for the good news. It looks like Georgia is deep enough this year to sustain injuries. The defense is playing better than they have played in years and is only going to get better. Georgia played ND without its two starting CB's. By the end of the regular season all the new receivers and Fromm will have worked out most of the timing issues. They are by far the most talented group of receivers that CKS has had. Georgia is 5 deep at running back and at least 7 deep on the O-line.
On defense Georgia is 5 or 6 deep at CB. The D-line is playing at least as well as they did in 2017. I do not think you can compare the line backers this year to last they are so much better. The DB’ overall look to be even stronger than they were last year. All this is with several freshmen pushing for more playing time on this already very talented defense.
I think it was fairly obvious if you look in retrospective that they thought they had an advantage by making the Notre Dame linebackers go side to side with screens, other short in the flat passes, reverses, and end arounds. Now if you want to call that conservative football....OK, but what jumps out in reality is Georgia's coaching might have gotten baited by talented new starters on defense for ND starting slowly, and poor execution because on one of the screens, the linemen weren't blocking anybody.
The biggest issue and one that was weird is getting calls in slowly. I'm not siding with Coley but if you block better on one of those early screens, if Fromm had a better ball over the middle to Blaylock, if Simmons actually has the hands of a good wideout, oh and if you don't muff a punt, you look a lot better in that game.
It's nuts, but we're probably going to have a similar case as 2017 in which both teams fans are talking the ifs of what we'd do if we played a better game.
