As it should be and should have always been
Pete Van Weiren gonna show up?
For me:
Game 1 - Kuechel
Game 2 - Folty
Game 3 - Soroka
Game 4 - Fried, but on a short leash.
Game 5 - Kuechel/ Johnny Whole Staff
Teheran has experience but he's looked rough to me down the stretch. Too many misses over the heart of the plate. Too many long balls. He's a 1-2 inning match-up bullpen guy come playoffs for me.
The cardinals are right hand hitting heavy fwiw. I haven’t watched a lot lately, but if it was me I would have kuechel soroka and folty as 3 locks. Probably go to fries and Teheran for long relief or matchups you feel good with. Not sure we need 4 starters if we could throw someone on short rest, making who is our number 1 guy an important question
Where it all started.Ted's Super Station made The Braves America's Team in the 1970s. 1980s and 1990s.
I understand and respect @WCDawg's idea of setting up the rotation so we can take advantage of Soroka's road success, but as a baseball coach, I'm not sure I'd give that a ton of weight. Maybe it's a traditional approach vs. a moneyball approach. There's no doubt Snitker is old school.
With that in mind I think we throw Soroka and Folty in games 1 & 2. They are are our best and hottest pitchers, respectively, and in a playoff setting we must focus on winning the first games first.
The veterans Keuchel and Teheran get the road starts.
Soroka pitches the deciding game, if needed.
Doubt it, but Maddux and Glavine would work!
ERA isn't like many ''advanced stats used in Sabermetrics, it's an actual result.
Soroka has a road ERA of 1.55 vs 4.14 at home. Folty's home ERA and road ERA are about the same, he's been excellent everywhere over the past 2 months. Keuchel has a home ERA of 2.74 vs 5.01 on the road.
If it wasn't for the fear of Folty getting nervous in a game 1 he'd be my top of the order guy. That leaves Keuchel. He is both unflappable and excellent at home. My thinking is why waste Soroka where he hasn't been good when he has been close to unbeatable on the road ? Julio has also been very good at home, so if Keuchel or Folty get hit early we'll have him for long relief.
It's a fair argument which you've articulated in multiple posts. I tried to give you full credit for it. I was just posting my own opinion.
You’re right Era isn’t advanced sabermetric type stuff but I don’t think he meant it like that. I think He meant looking at home/road splits like you are.
Im also on the fence on how much weight that should carry. Normally I would guess it doesn’t matter much, but sorokas big split definitely implies something may be up.
I think Braves win NLDS in 5 games. How about you Braves fans?
I agree if splits are close, they are fairly meaningless. This isn't close though, Mike sees them and success can give a player confidence. It's not just Soroka though. That is why I've tried to give a fuller picture of The options. Keuchel is very good at home, plus he's the calm vet. Folty has been great over the past 2 months, plus he's excellent at home. Another consideration is, this could set Soroka up to start game 1 against The Dodgers in Los Angeles if we clear St. Louis.
I sure ain't picking against us, 5 seems about right. The Cards have been great since June. I think pitching is a push, we're better on offense.
Keuchel just got announced as the official Game 1 starter
I see Sam "Infield Fly Rule" Holbrook will be heading up the ump crew for the Cardinals series... Still one of the dumbest things I've ever seen an ump do in such a crucial spot. Calling infield fly as the fielder drops the ball after running 60 feet into the outfield grass. That ranks a sight notch below Kent Hrbek pulling Gant off 1st base in the 91 WS on the list of maddest I've ever been watching a baseball game.
