With how we emphasize the run game I can’t believe we only had 5 this year. I think we need 6. We will definitely be taking a 2nd RB in 2020. Sevaughn Clark could get a scholarship.
like I have said all along, we will sign 26-27 new players for the 2020 cycle. (including transfer portal)
So here is the question then, and I realize it is a fool's errand, but....
Assuming we get the BEST class we can at this point (INCLUDING Burton, Theo, DW, Smith and the other leans); who do you 'kick' out to take what would be AT BEST the #10 back on @SoFL_Dawg 's list??
Assuming we are out on Tank, Lloyd, Chaney and those dudes, do we take Gibbs over Burton? Or Smith? Or Stroud??
Gibbs wont play for UGA even if those dudes go down as we will take at least 1 next year and then the year after. I have to think that Gibbs would be even lower on BPA than those other WR.
I agree with this.
We need a 2nd RB & a 2nd LB in 2020 just so we don’t have to go so heavy in future years.
Rice/Quay Walker/Adam Anderson/Channing Tindall/ Jermaine Johnson/Walter Grant could all have to be replaced by the 2021 cycle.
with only Sherman coming in as a player with experience to replace them in the 2021 season.
The more I read about Burch, the more convinced I am that we land him. We may not be his perfect school, but we're his best option by a long shot.
Clemson - Dabo peeved mom in a big way.
SC - terrible on field performance
Alabama and LSU - too far from mom.
UGA - close enough to mom. Good relationship with the staff. Individually and as a group the DL has shown the most improvement of any position group on the team aka player development.
UGA checks the most boxes.
This is a good comparison, but I think two things makes this go SC's way:
1) Javon Kinlaw
2) Coach Boom/son plays with Burch at Hammond
Also important to note that Orgeron made huge impact on his mom. Not sure that distance factor will be limiting.
he’s been to UGA the most since the summer but the hype train exists in Baton Rouge. Yep, they closed the gap with “1” visit. With mom being a gamecock, maybe sending her kid to LSU hurts less. No one knows.
If he’s not on campus next weekend we can take him off the board though.
Just dayum. We’ve come a long way since September when we were “gettin’ errybody”. That 2018 class really spoiled us.
We’re not that sexy right now on the trail, it is what it is. We still have laid ground work with our priorities but most haven’t been to campus in ~60 days. Nothing to sneeze at when dealing with recruiting.
Theres chatter about so much negative recruiting right now it’s no longer something you smile and nod about. We’ll get ours but it’s extremely naive to think that things that went down at end of last season, along with how this season has progressed, along with lack of NFL success at several positions isn’t impacting our brand.
I don't like this take. We're the first to say that we stack up RBs and they don't mind sitting for a year and not getting much wear and tear. When we don't get our way, we can't say that "No one wants to be 5th string". We're RBU. 5th string at UGA is more prestigious than 2nd string at the Barn or UTjr.
Back to back years of some very weird circumstances around the RB room. (Holyfield affecting Sanders last year/ Evans situation this year). I just don't see us not reeling in 2. JMO. If we are going to run "thin" at any position group at UGA it won't be RB. I'd put money on that.
Linebacker feels different to me. We have guys contributing heavily as freshman already in a room full of 2nd and 3rd year guys. No need to log jam that room. We swung for the fence on that one and went 1-2. Sherman will be a gamer for us.
It matters when they don’t have the talent to leap frog guys in the room. Evans, Jase, Chaney, Tank, could leap frog guys in the room.
Based on the what I saw from Lloyd this season or any other back not named, they are taking a long back seat to the talent in the room.
Hey everyone, I wanted to clear some things up with the board. I don’t pretend to be a Georgia insider. I don’t have the UGA sources like some brilliant posters on this board do. I have connections at Clemson, and everything I ever hear is always related to the Clemson perspective. Any time I make a prediction for a guy to end up at UGA, it’s just a prediction. I’m just using what I’ve ever gathered from the Clemson side and piecing it together make a best guess at what I think will happen on the UGA side. The only time I know definitely if a guy will end up at UGA is if that guy has told the Clemson staff straight up that he’s going to UGA, which is very rare. The only 2 times I remember this happening were Cade Mays and Clay Webb. So when I was joining the parade of “Sewell to UGA” it wasn’t because I knew, I was just guessing. I did know Flowe was Clemson-bound, and knew UGA had cooled on him a little, so I assumed it was Sewell to UGA. But I didn’t know, and was obviously wrong. So take all of my predictions with a grain of salt, they’re only as good as anyone else’s. Now if I say explicitly a guy is not going to Clemson or is going to be a Clemson Tiger, then I know definitively, and you can take it to the bank, because I’ve heard it directly from within the program. Like Flowe will be at Clemson next year. I’ve heard that for sure.
With all that being said, I’ve been hesitant to jump in on the Jordan Burch news because I was honestly shy to come back to the board after the Sewell debacle lol. But I’ve held my tongue long enough, and thought I would share what’s going on from the CLEMSON side, as that’s all I’m good for. Big disclaimer: I don’t know Jordan Burch. I don’t know what he’s thinking, what’s going on in his circle, or what he’ll do next. I only know what I know from people who think they know. Anybody who says they know what’s going on in his circle (even Wiltfong) are exaggerating what they do know, because nobody can even get in touch with him, hardly. So I talked to my Clemson guys, though, and they informed me of some information I didn’t know previously. I knew Burch had been wavering with his interest in Clemson, but my guys told me that he had been dodging contact with the staff for a couple of months. A few calls here and there, but the communication resembled more of “keeping the irons warm” on Burch’s end than what you usually see this late in the process between a recruit and a school he’s considering. Many have said Burch dropped Clemson, which is true. He basically called the staff and told them to give it a rest and stop trying, It’s not happening. Burch WILL NOT end up at Clemson. Hinted at this for months, but confirmed it. Now for where he goes I don’t know. His momma wants him in Columbia, his coaches want him in Columbia, and the South Carolina boosters want him in Columbia. LSU has done a truly incredible job recruiting him, and as of right now, that’s probably where Burch wants to go. They’re the pretty girl in class right now with a need for speed on the edge, it makes sense. They’ve done a good job with Mom too, but Baton Rouge is a long way from Columbia. UGA could get an OV that final weekend before Signing Day, which could swing him, but many believe it’s going to be South Carolina. Its a little shocking to me, but obviously other factors are weighing more heavily than winning. I probably won’t hear much more about Burch now that Clemson is out, so everything from now on is just best guesses.
As far as Arian Smith goes, the staff wasn’t feel good about where they stood. The belief was if they offered, it would be a home run and Smith would be a lock to Clemson. That wasn’t the case at all. The whole reason for the offer was because the staff didn’t feel good about where things stood with Xzavier Henderson, a guy they valued more. With things not progressing with Smith, the mindset now is if the staff is going to miss, miss on the guy they liked better in the first place. Smith WILL NOT be at Clemson. UF still leads for Henderson, but CU is back in it for now. Don’t know where Smith ends up. UGA is definitely in it, but Bama makes sense as well. Not too familiar with UGA numbers situation, and reading here about the Burton news, not sure how this shakes out.
I’ll stop speaking so definitively over here to avoid confusion on what I actually know and what I’m guessing about so I don’t get caught with my pants down, or seem like I’m coming off disingenuous. I love following recruiting and love coming over to this board, and don’t want to mislead any of you good people being a “fake insider.” I’m surely not an insider, I just like to share what I do hear when I hear it. Can’t wait for 12/18.
@ClemTown keep bringing the heat bro. We’ve corresponded privately in the past and you definitely know what you know. Welcomed addition here even though you enjoy weird colors ;).
Dang. This is somewhat sad
Negative recruiting for the offensive side I can see...for the defense I call bs. Not that it's not happening, but I doubt seriously its very effective. On offense, we can sell playing time as the equalizer and point to pickens and blaylock at true freshman with skills playing early and often.
I'm not denying a lack of momentum, I just doubt its as bad as everyone is projecting. Call me a disney sunshine pumper...just don't see it that way. I also think some of our perceived lack of momentum is because the staff has switched priorities midway through the cycle in several areas. Its hard to come in late on some people without prior relationship.
Maybe things have changed since last week, but my friend who is an actual insider did not seemed worried at all with recruiting. He even sounded confident.
