Why would a top TE pick us? I’ve heard for years and years how we’re gonna utilize the tight end. Never happened - even when we had really good ones (Nauta). I know the staff can sell a recruit on “see what you can bring” but the reality is we just don’t use the tight end. Hopefully that changes.
Different TE coach, different plays can be called with an elite TE, early PT.
Just need 1 top dawg Te to commit to changing the room and that narrative
We had a top TE in Nauta and our QB wouldn’t/couldn’t get him the ball. Nautas best year was his freshman year with Eason when he split time with Jeb Blazevich.
Its not the scheme. The TEs are available. As terrible as Fields looked when he was in games for us last year, he got the ball to Nauta at a high clip. TEs are available but whether its sight lines, comfort throwing between the hashes, or TEs completing the catch when given the opportunity, we’ve failed at the position this year.
All 3 of these targets know the TE is available. We could miss on all 3, we could land 2/3. But its not the scheme.
His best year was his last year where he had a career best in yards and receptions. Don't get too caught up in stars as nauta was as fast as a Walmart, but was a very good blocker.
An athletic TE that can block and is quick on routes would change the dynamic.
His numbers were SLIGHTLY better last year but played much less his Freshman year. His production per snap was much higher his Fr year than last. He was on the field much more last year and wasn’t utilized.
To the I d I o t who off topiced (OT) me, I included adding an athletic TE would change that. Reading can be difficult for some folks.
Also, one has to consider the other players on the field (before a OT, I'm setting up the recruiting part ;). If a team has numerous playmakers at WR (like 2018), then expect for the ball to go to them more than a TE, unless that TE is very special.
UGA has not had a very special TE in years. For my little OT guy, Theo Johnson is one that changes that for UGA. He is very athletic and a mismatch for defenses. He also would be one of the better athletes on offense.
Washington is a sticks mover and a red zone threat, not a polished route runner, but a huge asset none the less and needed for this offense.
Fat fingered it. My apologies
Sorry about this post, I was in my feelings last night. I hope we have some recruits that see they can help out right away and see playing time day one, especially the WR room. I love my Dawgs and I hope Kirby fixes the issues because we need it.
#GoDawgs
we need 15 WRs.
had 10 heading in to 2019.
2 seniors
8 guys return
1 has ACL
1 is a tweener (Tounge)
3 are 3-4 year players and have yet to show up.
so that leaves us with 3 returning WRs (Pickens/Kearis/D Rob)
We need 10-12 guys to come in this offseason in order to flip that room.
we aren't gonna get 10-12 guys, so we are gonna have a small room again next year with little experience.
Blount/Bush/Landers HAVE to step up next year if we have any chance of opening up the offense.
Good grief a young good receiver has got a real good opportunity at UGA. I believe the offense will be focused on this off season. No way another year like 2019 happens again in the near future.
Yeah I'm just gonna delete this post. I guess it's to soon to try and be funny. Sorry.
The admins first mistake was not hiring the new coaching staff from this forum. Obviously we have some people here who are far superior than the current staff.
Seriously though, assuming Rosemy is the dude he appears to be, along with Pickens and a couple of other WR targets, I think we can be solid at WR next year. Add either Theo or Darnell (or both) and our pass catching group will be solid.
Justin Robinson in case others too do not know of whom you post
Perhaps I missed it, but if so many of the remaining recruits are silents, as has been suggested, why not declare now, or even before now? Can only guess that it allows the recruit to make their OVs to other schools (?) Aren't OVs mostly done?
In fullness, and more generally, other than allowing them to make their OVs and I guess "have their moment" in some post season venue (?), it doesn't seem compelling that the silent remain silent as long as they do. If UGA has 5-6 silents, that seems like a lot of people to drag out the announcements.
