Burton and Robinson are supposed to be EEs. But there was always a question of Burton and qualifying due to all of his transfers possibly throwing up red flags with the NCAA clearinghouse.
I learned everything I need to know about the shady world of college recruiting in the 1988 documentary Johnny Be Good.
Texas features prominently in that one.
Thank you. I was hoping that all the receivers were early enrollees. Two out of four is better then none.
So he’s not solid right now and there is a chance he will flip.
Look how small his hand is, too. Could it be Jake???
Seriously, it really could be fake. The interviews I’ve seen of Ringo are of a well spoken and intellectual person. My first thought was I couldn’t believe he would type, “ we gone have the best....”
I’d love to see Fromm take on Tuscaloosa next year
Based on the last half of this season, to be blunt, at this time I am not looking forward to that game.
Good morning guys-
There was a post that outlined all of our EE candidates (signees & targets). I thought it was in this thread or @JeffSentell thread. Search function didn’t locate. Anyone recall that post? Share?
Understandable for sure. And maybe I had not considered the last half of the season when I said that - but if the rumor is he’s coming back , I’m going to buy the theory that Fromm’s problems have been related primarily to the dip in receiver production this year vs last
(saw last night Tom Brady is having similar problems this season)
and then I’m going to buy the theory that we have a bunch of game changing pass catchers coming to wear red and black next year -
If you buy all that you can be optimistic too!
Regarding Fromm, if he does end up coming back he's definitely got to be better than he was this year. His mechanics and therefore his accuracy was off entirely too often this season. And I'm not sure if he's ever going to overcome his tendency of refusing to look or throw over the middle with enough frequency to keep defenses honest there.
I put together a ThreadReader Tweet string from Ian Wharton where he broke down Fromm's season. It's pretty long, around 50ish tweets but it paints a less than flattering picture. Jake's got some great qualities and has proven in the past that he can get the job done and done well. But based on last year he's got several things he needs to work on this offseason if he's really going to help us next year. He CAN do it, the big question is WILL he?
Good share. FWIW I think Jake is turning pro. Getting a day 2, 2nd round grade is a hell of an accomplishment.
Declaring early changes his life financially, helps us with recruiting the QB position, and allows the team to expedite the transition to what this offense is intended to be.
I don’t think Fromm has 1st round talent. Even if returning, it think it’s mighty hopeful to think 3-4 sophomore and freshman WRs will be polished enough to make a deep run next year. A 9-3, 10-2 regular season only discredits him further. Saw a ESPN personality state “Fromm needs to declare, it’s been downhill since his freshman season.” Right or wrong, perception is reality and the talking heads frame that reality well.
King, Mathis, or Beck...I’m hoping our 20 QB is one of these guys taking all our lumps in the same year.
I agree. Time to move on and start the new chapter at QB. I believe a more agile QB is a necessity in today’s college game. To many advantages for offensive play calling and to many limitations that it puts on the opposing Defense.
I agree with all of this. It’s just weird to think all the positives of him going pro, if he does decide to return his senior season, I would like our chances of winning a natty. So oddly, it’s a win-win for the program
I not sure what makes everyone believe he can go back to what he was. He tried all year and Jake Fromm cannot be an offensive centerpiece. He is like great software (brain/football IQ) running on limited hardware (poor arm/physical abilities). He needed the Sony/Chubb/Wims and the Holloman/Mecole/Ridleys/Swift/Holyfield’s to be the centerpiece of the offense. Jake is not the centerpiece. If he is called on to win games next year for us it could be worse than this year. I think he leaves. Too much of a risk of showing more of the same next year. That would eliminate any type of 2/3rd round grade and drop him farther back.
