Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

You're always good for a laugh. Keep trying big dawg. You'll get me one day
Yeah dude, not everybody is going to get sick and die from their symptoms. We all understand it's not the plague. I'm very happy for all the asymptomatic people around the world.
It's when an elderly or at-risk person contracts the virus that we start worrying about the increased mortality rate.
Oh yeah? Bet you can't name 10 more suggestions
I'd say the prognosis is...well....a picture is worth a thousand words;
Anyone know where I can get a good, cheap double-barrell shotgun?
That article I referenced made it look like the effects of this illness would be massive absenteeism because so many people will be infected...but the only absenteeism so far is self-imposed. It was a bit of a spin. You can't blame absenteeism on a mandated precautionary shut-down. And you have to admit that media is absolutely obsessing on this issue, with each news source trying to out-do each other with dire predictions.
Post them. I want to see the dire predictions not grounded in reality.
I agree that the media keeps talking about it, but it's now an official global pandemic. What are they supposed to do, ignore it all altogether?
I also haven't seen doomsday predictions from any news source, anywhere. I may not be looking hard enough, but if you do find something, please let me know.
Other than #1 and #6, how do you know I'm not doing all that? What you described are normal flu season precautions. Nothing new there. Your suggestions are basically to panic a little more and not go to large gatherings.
Coronavirus Mortality Rates by Age: (from LA Times)
ages 10-19: 0.2%
ages 20-29: 0.2%
ages 30-39: 0.2%
ages 40-49: 0.2%
ages 50-59: 0.4%
ages 60-69: 3.6%
ages 70-79: 8%
ages 80+: 14.8%
Overall mortality rate of the flu is...DRUMROLL PLEASE... 0.2%. Not coincidentally, 74.8% of all flu- related deaths are in the 65 and older group.
I've stated multiple times people should be calm but cautious and not panic. I never suggested people start hoarding food and ammunition. Mass gatherings are the easiest way to transmit disease, so why is it unreasonable to avoid them during an outbreak?
Edit: I just gave the general advice I give everyone since it's a short list
As for Italy, 23% of the population is over 65. Italy is the “oldest” country in Europe. The median age in Italy is 47.9. The median age in the US is 38.7. It should not be a surprise that Italy is experiencing a higher mortality rate.
Death is a bummer no matter the cause. Nobody wants to die from the flu or the coronavirus. Should people panic? Prolly not but everyone needs to be informed.
Swine Flu was a "pandemic" and nobody was cancelling events and the news wasn't obsessed. Doomsday predictions? I have seen "experts" claim that this illness could infect around 80% of all humanity (that's about 5.6 Billiion people) and KILL around 3% of those infected...or about 168 million people. 168,000,000! Absurd. That would be one of the worst disasters in human history. Yes, many sources are predicting doomsday.
It's not that we don't care or we're just going on about living life willy nilly without care for anybody else. I'm not going to panic over this situation. By saying that it doesn't mean I'm not going to be cautious and do what the experts are telling me to do.
The swine flu is specifically why this worries me a little. Swine flu killed my stepdad in his 40's.
