Thanks guys. I love all kinds of music. And I like most anything with banjo pickin' and fiddle playin.' Glad to know this band.
Yeah man, check em' out, they have a lot of good music!!!!
I got hooked on the Steeldrivers when Stapleton was in it. I'm in a big band/swing/rockabilly phase right now, as my wife and I are learning East Coast Swing dancing.
Sounds like Brian Setzer is right up your alley. Check out (if you haven’t already) his work with Stray Cats, solo and with the BS Orchestra. Great music, and that guy has some serious chops on the guitar. Crazy good licks!!!!!!
Yep, we had tickets to see his BSO in November but he cancelled the tour because of tinnitus. We saw Lee Rocker in Arlington, Texas, and I wanted to fly to San Diego to see the last of the Stray Cats 40 year reunion tour concert, but it was vetoed by the War Department as a frivolous waste of money. Had they appeared in Atlanta we would definitely have been there.
so I saw Sturgill and Tyler Friday night
These are by far my two favorite people in music right now so I was pretty excited to see them in one concert.
So summarization:
first, Sturgill performed with a jacket but no shirt so his chest was exposed. I was not expecting that lol
If you have ever seen Tyler's red barn videos on youtube then you have an idea of what this show was like, just with more lights and a band backing him. He did not talk much but I will say he was pretty darn funny when he did. His music is great, and he is great live. Don't expect much more than him playing music though. Not a big showman or anything
Sturgill is not what I expected. I own all four of his albums and if you want to hear those songs then no need to see him in concert. Oh, he plays them but they sounds pretty different. This is not a bad thing, just a note. It was a rock'n'roll concert. Loud, lights, shredding electric guitar (Sturgill is freaking bada$$ on guitar, I had no idea he could play like that. It is not reflected on his albums.)
Tyler played for an hour or so, Sturgill closer to 2 hours. Def. get your $ worth. Neither talk much or do anything except play music with Sturgill playing twice as loud as Tyler lol.
Another thing with Sturgill: his voice is not really made for the type of music he is doing right now imo. His first three albums fit his voice but this newest one he just isn't strong enough to carry it the way he wants. It is not bad but I would love his guitar playing, his music, his lyrics but Cobain or Cornell singing.
If you can go see it. I recommend it. It does feel like two very different concerts in one night but that is an observation and not a complaint
Since this is vinyl related, I'd like to get some input from you guys if any of you has experience and can share some intel. I want to get a new turntable but I'm not that high on cash, so I found some budget options here https://popular.reviews/turntable/, the PVTT15UBT from Pyle and the Musitrend. As I know of, Pyle should be the better option manufacturer-wise, but maybe some of you have input and can help me decide. TIA, have a good day!
Not sure what your budget is and if you're looking at an all in one or stand alone unit. Money is important based on how and how much you are going to use it. Avid vinyl listeners should invest in quality turntables. Casual listeners can go the cheaper route.
A few years ago, I had about 175+ albums given to me ranging from 33's, 45's and some 78's. I had no turntable because as many do, got rid of mine many years ago because of "advanced" technology. Sorry I did. Long story short, I bought an ION Classic LP just to be able to sound test the albums before I put them up for sell. It's a decent turntable and works for what I need, however if I were to get back to pure listening and collecting of vinyls for that purpose, I would spend more for the turntable. Some of the good ole' vintage turntables (70's) can be had on eBay, but they will cost a few bills or more.
Tyler Childers is awesome. Check out Nicholas Jamerson also. Both from Eastern Ky.
going to check out now on youtube. top 2-5 you recommend?
If cost is an issue and you're a younger person who's never owned a turntable before, then just buy an all-in-one unit to try it out. Should cost $50 online or at a retail location like Best Buy. Victrola sells a carrying case type that is perfectly serviceable. If your passion for vinyl grows, and your album collection along with it, then you can decide a few years from now whether to invest in a better system.
I am a huge NF fan. I’m going to his Atlanta show with my son if the concert isn’t cancelled due to Corona. Lately I’ve also been listening to a lot of the Pogues and Tom Waits. Obviously, I have varied tastes.
have tickets to NF in Greenville, assuming does not get canceled. but odds are low at this point
I love rap and NF is one of the very few I let my 10 year old listen to
Tyler is badass
