Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

You just seem to find the right words to bring us all together.
216,000 signatures now. New goal of 300,000...and its Monday many more folks at their computers today. And SEC releasing its schedule.
Yeah I wasn’t happy either when Fields transferred but this isn’t just about fields. It’s an entire conference full of players that want to play. I applaud Justin for showing leadership.
I'm just glad the petition wasn't communicated in "authentic frontier gibberish"; it wouldn't have near the same amount of signatures.
You mean stuffy old politicians...governors and Congressmen....I don't think this has anything to do with the schools. Half the B10 states are still on hard lockdown and the Governors refuse to budge.
I hate the seat belt law. I also hate the helmet law when riding my motorcycle. I believe they infringe upon a personal choice that doesn't hurt anyone but me.
As much as I can't stand the B1G, I really hate that they won't be playing. It would be an even worse PR nightmare if they cancel the season, then go back and decide to play.
It just sucks that those midwesterners won't call our national title legitimate after we win this year.
Were the Lions given an exemption? I think everyone has assumed government would allow the colleges to play, but I guess it was far from a certainty.
The second statement is exactly my thought. Once Big 10 and Pac 12 cancelled their season I just assumed their would be no CFP. But now that I've read CFP is still on, it needs to be legit.
Don't know. The NFL hasn't played a game yet. Their season is not certain either. Would be hard to justify allowing the NFL to play in P12 and B10 states but not college or HS ball.
Apples and grizzly bears. One has a union collectively bargaining for their safety and compensation and one is at the mercy of an outdated and impotent system with no real leadership or guidelines.
Great point!!!
From the time they take the field to get loose, until the time the last horn sounds, the execution of both EVENTS should be very, very similar.
As far as EVENTS go, if one can be done, so should the other.
Now, all the other stuff outside of the EVENT - the other 6 and a half days a week - are very, very different. And there, of course, is the catch to all this. Responsible, adult professionals are probably going to handle those 6.5 days better than your average 19 year old.
I think you have to consider what the goal is... what are the expectations?
If you think we should only have a season if we can prevent every individual from catching the virus, then forget about it. This will not and should not happen if those are the standards.
If you think we should proceed as long as we think we can prevent anybody from dying on the field, then you're probably playing too loose with the health of these athletes.
The plan should have a standard/goal/set of expectations in place that falls somewhere between the two above. Then stick to it. Even if the season must end early. Only alter the plan if new information reveals itself (like we find a vaccine or we hear it is passed more effectively through sweaty nylon pants).
Not sure about that. ALL sports have been cancelled in the P12 and B10, not just football. The reason is that they feel it is unsafe for everyone under any circumstances. If they made that decision out of a purely safety-minded perspective, then unions and leadership should have nothing to do with it. They (P12 and B10) are opposed to large gatherings in general. They feel it is just too dangerous. So, why is it OK for the Lions or the Seahawks or the 49ers to play, but not college? I think it is because the NFL is a private company and college football conferences are largely made up of state-run schools. The Governors have a big say in it. The NCAA has nothing to do with this. I have said previously, it will be interesting to see if the Lions are allowed to play when the Governor of Michigan won't even allow people to go to church.
250k and counting...
If that's truly the #1 priority then they shouldn't have thousands of students returning to campus.
