- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

Isn’t Shelvin a redshirt junior? He should’ve just gone in the last draft.
These are unusual times.
Jamar Chase is a clear cut case of a kid deciding to prep for the draft rather than play the season. But for some of these kids, they could have other issues going on (academic problems, discipline issues, physical/mental health concerns, playing time/contemplating transfer portal, etc.).
I imagine "opt out" will be the phrase that is applied across the board this season, with the underlying reason(s) varying from case to case.
Edit: I'm not suggesting anything about Shelvin's particular circumstances. He's certainly a top NFL prospect. Just making a general observation.
It seems LSU figures they are goi g to **** this year.
UF giddy.
I don’t care if LSU craters or not this year, as long as they run the Gators off the field.
Question for those who may know the answer...
If the athlete "opts out," he stays on scholly, correct?
However, can he go ahead and hire an agent if he is planning on declaring in January?
In today's climate, if I can train and prepare at an elite facility for free, continue to get hours toward a degree for free, and go ahead and get paid (floated cash by an agent) during the process...
Sounds like a interesting deal...
Even with all of the attrition, I wouldn't say that playing LSU amounts to a BYE week. That's Vandy.
Rusty at 247 posted that LSU is down to 5 returning starters from last year's team.
There's a way to "finesse" this I've learned. There are multiple students taking virtual classes which allow them to move to different areas and train. No need to hire an agent. Just hire a trainer, live with them or near them, while taking classes online and you're within all NCAA bylaws technically. Alot of the B10 kids are going about things this way. Fields practically did this his first semester at OSU for reference point.
Agents usually come with a line of credit...
That's my question, I guess.
And I bet Chase' credit line is high right now...
I get you. But I think that there isn't a severe need for agents right now. So much in the world is in movement so guys may just train and workout while virtually learning until the get draft evals.
@Canedawg2140 To add to my post earlier, I do not think it's fair to "opt out" and still receive a full scholarship. If you decide to forgo the season to prep for the draft then that is your right to do so. However, the university should be under no obligation to honor an athletic scholarship if a player no longer wants to play with his team.
I doubt they are under contractual obligation, but if word got out to recruits (it would) you just shot yourself in the ****.
I agree that there may not be a need for representation...
But I can promise you a college kid can find a need for a couple hundred thousand dollars right about now...
The list of people who couldn’t find a need for a couple hundred thousand is pretty short.
Do the players that opt out to train for the NFL have to remain in classes?
Did they go to classes in the first place? Burrows took one online class all last year. The ones who are serious about getting a degree would probably still go, the ones that weren't wont. Nothing is saying that they have to stay in school when they opt out.
Plus the guy who opted out on the west coast, he wanted to still work out with his teamates and his coaches wouldn't let him; not out of spite more because he opted out for his safety so they weren't going to allow him to put at risk the other athletes.
I figured they were dropping out of classes but I wasn't sure. If true, then that is a big factor I think. The players that have no interest in a degree, only NFL, like any option presented that includes no class.
The downside of this is all these LSU opt outs makes it easier for the Gators when they play them. I want Gator tears
