Patting myself on the back
Wow. That was such a playoff game the Braves would have lost for the last 15 yrs. Maybe this post-season will be different. Have to love taking their best shot with Bauer but still scratching out a win.
Man that was something else!!!
seeing him strut off the mound and them losing makes me happy
Yeah his little "chop" was cute .
#1 that took too long. I hate Arod, but bunt, guys...
#2 Bauer is the kid who needed his rear kicked all through middle and high school and somehow missed out on the beating. It would have done him some good. He's a tool.
#3 let's win 13-4 tommorow...
I actually like Bauer. He's just a weird guy, but he's authentic. It's not an act, just a ****. I'll take that over some of the robots.
Tomorrow/possibly Friday will be huge. If Anderson (and to a lesser extent, Wright) can perform in the playoffs as rookies then we could make a run. Would also be huge for those guys’ development. Tomorrow, we will see what Anderson is really made of. Go Braves
Respect Atlanta. 😂
Great win for the home team. Brutally tough for the other guys. Hopefully they don't get off the mat tomorrow.
12:08 start again. Anderson vs. Castillo
Dear Atlanta Braves:
Congratulations on the playoff win.
There is a strategy in baseball called a bunt.
I'm just waiting for the inevitable slide in production that will occur when our weak rotation is exposed. Hoping we can produce runs consistently to keep up the wins but I am not betting on anything.
Yes and it is rapidly fading from the game. Advanced analytics allegedly show it's ineffective way more than just hitting away. Or so I've been told. I was a great bunter as a kid...too bad they didn't have a designated bunter. I could have been a contender.
Yeah advanced analytics say it’s not a useful strategy. Also, people think bunting is like an automatic thing but bunting is low key pretty hard and not many have that skill these days.
Agree. I get frustrated when a major leaguer fails to successfully bunt, especially with 2 or 3 tries in an AB.
I believe the only time advanced analytics says to bunt is when runners are first and second and no outs (and these stats aren't that advanced, it just took teams who did and didn't bunt and averaged the runs scored, those that chose not to bunt scored more runs in those innings bunting situations came up).
Analytics show what the percentage play is OVER A FULL SEASON. The numbers show that, if you play it out, you will score more runs swinging away...
HOWEVER...
SOMETIMES YOU ONLY NEED ONE RUN. Like, to win a game when it's tied in extra innings. The analytics pointing to swinging away don't mean crap then. Because if you hit a 3 run homer in the 12th, it doesn't matter - there is no benefit to the extra 2 runs.
The percentages actually swing WAY BACK to bunting in that situation - to get a guy on second with less than two outs - to score ONE RUN. I understand not doing it in the 4th inning - you give up and out and lose a chance at a two-run homer when your entire team hits bombs.
BUT IN THE EFFING 12TH INNING YOU BUNT THE EFFING GUY OVER. Every time. Because you only need one run. And they can't get two outs with one pitch. And all you need is a flair, a bleeder, an error, or a simple hit to win the game...
You can't rely on percentages and numbers to dictate your strategy in innings 1-8 and completely ignore them in innings 9+...
And that is what the Braves do. It is really, really bad baseball. And - much worse for my nerd brain - it's flat out illogical...
