Really good...but a little rich for my blood!
Just money :-)
On Saturday I went to lunch and then a bar afterward. I noticed they had Pappy 15 on the shelf. It was a brand new bottle, so I asked the bartender for a pour (neat of course). In my head I'm thinking $20-25 for the pour. My buddy looks over and goes, "Wow, you're really treating yourself!" I'm like "How much do you think this will cost?" He goes at least $40 and my son said, $60. It was a very generous pour and I marveled at the complexity on the nose and palate. It was so smooth I couldn't believe it. About 15 minutes later the bartender comes over and says, "I probably should have told you how much that costs." I said, "Well how much?" $95. I about swallowed my Adams apple. Later on a female bartender came over and I mentioned the steep price and she felt bad, so she gave me a half pour for free. Considering that bottle goes for $2,500 on the open market I didn't feel so bad. That's some d a m n good bourbon!
I'll definitely be keeping it...
Playing off the old Oyster quote, "It's a brave man who orders a shot of Pappy without asking the price."
Of course my wife would have a much less favorable word for "brave".
With tip it was $123 and change. I have to say it was worth it. Back in the good ole days I remember having a bottle of the 15 yr. and thinking it was good, but I don't recall it being as good as that precious glass on Saturday. Man it was the bomb.
I wasn't running that kind of tab in college, but your reference to drinks after lunch reminds me of going to Harry Bissett's one fine spring afternoon a long time ago. A few hours and several martinis later, it was suggested that I might want to call it a day.
Let's just say I'm glad it's a gently descending slope from downtown to the middle of campus, because I rolled half the way home.
After the bar on Saturday my son suggested we go back to my house and drink some Old Fashions. I think we went through 3 bottles of bourbon. Thankfully, I was drinking water all evening or I'd still be hungover!
Both good bourbons. I would pay the non-price gouging prices of around $49 for the Antique but I probably would pass on the 12 for $49.
I just grabbed another bottle of Blantons for $69.99!!! He told me that my next bottle would be $139.99, I told him that I wasn't sure that I would pay that much for it.....
you certainly should NOT pay that much lol. black market prices
I'd say, "What next bottle?"
I had a bottle recently, didn't care for the phenolic aftertaste.
walked into Costco today and boom, Blanton's for $49.99
and not bourbon but I just picked up a bottle of Ardberg ARRRRRRRDBEG. $180 but I really love Islay scotches
