Nebraska should do whatever it takes to get Leopold at Kansas. If he can win games there he should be able to win anywhere.
I remember reading something years ago when Nebraska was king that their secret sauce was running an offense that was tailor made for the kinds of players coming out of Nebraska high schools. They play a lot of 8-man football there because of the small communities that dominate the state. Option offenses, at least at the time, dominated Nebraska HS football. I don't know if that is still true, but it makes me wonder if they need to go back to what made them so great back in the day.

#2 is a great point. Teams need to be reasonable in their expectations. So many programs expect their new coach to win championships within a year or two and fire them if they don't. I cringe when I hear a new coach at some troubled program talk about winning championships (hello Vandy....).
You and @Kasey are very well informed, educated college football fans, with a predominant Dawg fan perspective! Go Dawgs!
But my cousin played for Nebraska in the mid 90's - he was a member of 2 National Chsmpionship teams and a top 10 team!
He still acts, believes, talks, walks, shoot, $hit and cries like it is still "The wonder years"!
His perspective remains unwavering in what it should be. BUT he has finally realized that huge changes have to happen, HUGE... & it is very depressing for him to think it might not ever come back! He might be right, but I keep saying to him, there is too much support, money and the possibility of getting the "Old Guard" out of those decision making position, while keeping their money in play, without their opinion! Hopefully they figure it out, for my cousin's sake, I hope they do, he has almost given up due to Husker's syndrome depressive state!
Maybe with all this realignment stuff, Nebraska might need to go back to the B12. All those north east and Ohio/Michigan recruits probably aren't real interested in going to Nebraska. Whereas the midwest is more their backyard. I imagine they might have better luck in recruiting if they played teams closer to home.
They’re never leaving the b10. Especially not with the windfall of TV riches they’re about to cash in on.
I live in rural SC and I was surprised at what I saw from the highly successful 8 man squads. The dominant teams have 1 split wideout, 5 offensive lineman, a qb under center and then rotate 1 rb every 2 or 3 plays. Occasionally the qb will run a keeper away from the hole rb takes. In the event the wideout is not covered simply throw a quick pass to him, only seen this a couple of times.
offensive philosophy is simply to run thru designated hole every play and convert any 4th downs when you are outside your own 30 yd line.
If Nebraska went back to this philosophy you would have 4 wideouts, and now you have 7 on 7. Recruit roadgrader offensive lineman and bruising running backs. You want get any elite wide receivers but they are not in the gameplan unless simply not covered. Recruit more offensive lineman as they are the key to your offense and they only do 1 thing.
