Just really don't understand why our program is not best for him as far as the resources that seemed to be in place to assist him with whatever he is going through. If it is a matter of playing time, then I get it and I wish him well!

From all I’ve read it appears that we gave Arik tons of love and support during the past 2 years. He’s the most talented TE I’ve ever seen, but for whatever the reasons he didn’t click in Athens. The fact that we signed 2 ranked TE’s today and possibly 2 more in the Spring (including the #1 recruit at that position) may have helped Arik make this decision. I regret we will never see him dominate opponents in Athens, but I wish him the best. Go Dawgs!!!

Always want to wish the best, for someone. But it seems that Kirby expended lots of time and money with Gilbert, and he never panned out. Glad uga won't be wasting a scholarship on someone who can't play. Perhaps he will find a better fit, somewhere else. Good luck, Arik. ❤️

I honestly believe that at UGA Arik had finally reached a point and place where his talent and upside could not transcend accountability. His entire life he’s gotten by with being the most talented player on his team, and no one dared keep him off the field. He got to Athens and Kirby Smart and Co. wouldn’t budge. The standard was, is, and will continue to be nonnegotiable.
Arik just didn’t fit here. Kirby and company done all they could to try and help Gilbert as a person with his health issues. Gilbert may be a super talent but his practices has not earned the playing time I’m sure he wants. While Kirby has tried hard to help Gilbert work his way back on the field, Gilbert just hasn’t reached the standard that Kirby requires, and his sickness may be the reason.It’s unfortunate for both Kirby and Arik. The staff has invested heavily in Gilbert. Hopefully he finds what he needs.

This was a bad idea from the get-go.
I have to wonder if Georgia asked him to transfer. We can't afford to have someone hold onto a scholarship spot if they can't give their all.
I understand he has emotional issues to work through but there's only so much a football program can do. He often chose to not even travel with the team.
