It’s official
My son is officially an Arkansas Razorback. He has his first team meeting tonight. Had his physical and medical done on Friday. Very thorough processs. Measuring in at 6’ 5 1/2” and 239lbs.
But he’s a ways away from being able to block Dallas Turner or Harold Perkins.
Arkansas isn’t elite. Would never claim that. But **** there is some good looking talent in the SEC. Watching those players walking around at breakfast this morning was incredible.
Ran into Coach Pittman on Friday morning and I was wearing my Georgia cap. He just laughed and said they’ll take it out on my son. I just agreed that was a good plan.
Getting gear and fitted for equipment at an SEC school is unbelievable. He is fitted for a helmet and then custom shoulder pads.
He then got to pick from 20 different types of Nike cleats. He has struggled with turf toe for about a year so they are custom making his right shoe.
Lives in a 4 bedroom/4 bath apartment with 3 teammates. Must be nice having your own room as a freshman.
He has a food card that allows him to eat at over 25 restaurants in Fayetteville for free. Along with the football dinning hall.
And they spend just under $1 million on snacks/drinks for the players. Just Incredible.
Gonna miss having my sweet son at home… but he is ready and I’m so incredibly proud of him.
Go Dawgs

Have you and the Mrs prepared for the early nest syndrome?
Congrats again. Must be very exciting for you all!!! Thanks for sharing a bit on how the players are treated, living arrangements, food, etc…. This was very interesting to me. Especially the free meal card at 25 restaurants! That is awesome.
Honestly, there probably won’t be many freshman TE’s that can block Turner or Perkins this coming season. I wish your boy good luck and a bright future with Arkansas and the Pitt Boss!!!
About to hit us. Our daughter will be a Jr at Arkansas and is actually riding back to Dallas with us right now (I’m not driving)
But move her into her house in Fayetteville in 3 weeks and then officially empty nesters.
That part scares me to death.
Just awesome.....Fayetteville at night with Texas and OU coming into the conference, envying you right now.....
@texdawg remember like it was yesterday moving our youngest into her house for her senior year at USCjr knowing that when she graduated and left there she wasn't coming home. It works out, we talk to her about 5-6 times a week, which truly is more than we did when she was here. Best of luck to you and your family.
Congratulations again. That free food benefit is a big deal and will save you a whole lot on your food bill after feeding a growing young man that size 👍. Good for you wearing the UGA hat too!
Life long Dawg fan. And will die a Dawg fan.
"Arkansas isn't elite"
Eh perspective. They probably won't win the national championship this year. But there are what, 129 FBS schools, 125 FCS, 169 Div II, 238 Div III, and whatever else I'm missing. So 660+ colleges with a football program.
Ark is what, top 5%? Rice isn't MIT but it's elite. Playing football at Ark is elite
Congratulations, a lot of hard work and sacrifice went into this accomplishment. Not just his, I'm sure
Appreciate the comments.
Congratulations. Man I hope he does welll.
Now I have three reasons to cheer for the Hawgs out west. Pittman, Texdawg Jr, and John Daly.
Grats!
"Arkansas isn't elite" I dunno about that hoss. Arkansas is SEC football, and that's elite. This is big boy football your boy is playing and he's going to be seeing the best of the best.
Congrats.... definitely wish him well
I cant imagine the excruciating pain mixed with pride of dropping him and going home without him. I coach my 8 year old son's baseball team and last night we lost in the first round of the playoffs by 1 run. He is the best player on the team, but last night he struck out at both at bats. He was devastated - after giving him some time, I came up to him on the bench after sending the rest of the team out in the field and tears started falling. I hardly slept last night I was so sick over his season ending that way. I know in the grand scheme not advancing in a youth baseball playoff means nothing, and that losing teaches humility and can fuel hunger, but it still sucks. I have a feeling the sight of those tears, that only I got to see before dusting him off and redirected him back on the field to play some defense, are one of the things that I'll be thinking back on when I have to make a long drive home without him someday.
Congrats and good luck to you and your boy Tex!
It still hurts in the moment. You're a good dad.
