I used to think of it as showboating too. Now, it seems just regular behavior in the whole game of baseball, not just # 13. The more I think of it, it's just like an end zone celebration. He's done something that deserves to be celebrated so why not celebrate it?
Was watching an old interview by Bob Costas with Bob Gibson on YouTube. They discussed Babe Ruth "calling" his home run shot while at the plate. Costas asked Gibson how he would react, if he was on the mound. "I would put the next pitch right in his ear!," he replied. Money, safety, common sense and Ronald Acuna vs the Miami Marlins finally put to rest the idea of the baseball as a physical weapon.
Thankfully, the game has adopted "Let the boys (and girls) play." Sports, at all levels, have become far more popular with far less villans.
I am still old school, and just an old man. In playoffs, I believe we will still see a couple of plays where showboating will cost a team a game. A player standing at home plate on what he thought was a home run that he turns a double into a single, then fails to score but would have had he been on second.
its already happened to Ozuna ( and maybe Acuna) once this year already....
Curious what Braves will do with Grissom, seems they do not trust him to play infield at MLB level. Still playing infield at Gwinnett. One would think if he has a future with Braves it would be as an outfielder, but maybe he has not shown enough power.
My opinion he will be traded this off season.
They wanted him to succeed at SS this year I think. But he just wasn't cutting it. Arcia was always the backup plan and he has had a great year.
So yeah either he turns it around fast or he will be gone soon.
Perhaps. I like his bat. I think his power will pickup as he gets older/stronger. He can hit the ball. Hate to see us lose him but where to play him is a problem. That is a million dollar + infield and all pretty young. No spots likely to open in the near future. Might be best for him and his career and maybe the Bravos could get a decent reliever for him?
I would have thought when sent down this year he would have been moved to outfield as infield is set and traded for Lopez as backup infielder. Doesn't look like Braves see him in their future.
That is an amazing piece of trivia and an amazing post!
Many thumbs up!
Ty Cobb is in good company.
Braves win 10-3 over the Nats. Ozzie 4 for 6 with 4 rbi's. Michael Harris 3 for 5 and hitting .294
What a turnaround for Harris. He started off 5 for 23, then placed on IL for 3 weeks with a lower back injury, only to return hitting 9 for 63. That's a combined .163 average. He has completely turned around his season.
The lineup is great and all...but here come the playfoffs. Can our bullpen get key outs and not walk guys...we shall see
Yeah really like Harris. He is from Atlanta too if I am not mistaken.
When they have him hitting 9th and the the lineup turns over to Acuna and Albies. You've got the potential for a tremendous amount of speed on the bases in front of Riley and Olson.
That is if Acuna or Albies dont hit a homer themselves.
"That is if Acuna or Albies dont hit a homer themselves"
.True enough! Acuna and Albies both have over 100 RBIs apiece!
So Harris and Arcia (and Pilar, Lopez etc.) have been on base a bunch for the #1 and #2 hitters to each accumulate that many RBIs in a season!!
Go Braves!
Looking at Acura's numbers this morning and its really amazing the year he has had.
140 runs scored (Rare to get that many)
207 Hits
76 XBH (33 2b, 4 3b, 39 HR)
100 RBI's
68 SB's
OPS over a 1.000
Pretty unreal stuff.
Oh and he has 77 walks with only 78 K's. That is a low number of strikeouts for a power hitter and he almost has more walks than K's which is phenomenal.
Absolutely!
One HR from being the only 40-60 player in MLB history!
And one HR and two SBs away from being the only 40-70 player in MLB History!!
I'm thinking MVP myself!!
Best player in the game! Don't forget the gold glove caliber defense and absolute HOSE from RF.
the pen has been my chief concern for most of the season. They are way more up and down than I would like. They have a penchant for walks and non-clean innings. We will only go as far as our bullpen takes us in the playoffs.
His ability to cut down on strikeouts has really paid dividends this season. Remarkable year.
