Which makes them non-partisan. They resolve worker disputes with employers. Only time they act in a partisan manner is when union status is threatened by a political party
I don't care about their politics. I wouldn't stand in the way of them wanting more pay. I really don't care about slowing or stopping assembly lines. What I think is slimy is walking off jobs that give the people who already supported you through buying your product the replacement parts to keep their transportation working for themselves and their families. That's a low blow. The part i need is in a box in Detroit with a label on it but the job to get it in the truck is on strike.
When I was working for ABC Network in Hollywood I was brought into a meeting with the Union representative. He did everything he could to twist my arm to join the union, including veiled threats. I asked him a few questions like, how much is the monthly dues ($1,350 and this was in 1991), can you guarantee me employment, if I were to get laid off will you find me a job with another network, will the union provide no cost health benefits in the in event I'm laid off etc. He responded "No or None" to all questions. I followed up with, then what am I paying you all this money for when you're not doing anything for me? He couldn't answer that one. I followed that up with - ever hear of the Heston vs SAG Supreme Court case? He said, "Ok, I get it you're not going to join, please do not mention that case to the other employees at ABC." I said, "Have a nice day."
Cool fake story bro
One time a Union strike got me moving an expensive machine from over seas to a trade show. Shipping cost was $18,000 I think it was to ship to the event. It got stuck at LAX port due to a strike and never made the event. Was a huge loss. Only silver lining was it was before that loss would have been on me. Lesson learned.
Wrong. AFGE donates over 85% to Dems. This is a union member speaking who has seen all the partisan e mails, text messages and form letters from THE UNION asking for donations to Democrats 98% of time. That is partisan, and I know for a fact that the representation that I got was way way better and more involved than what non dues paying received. Facts.......
Yes, because republicans want to destroy unions. It’s natural to support the party that won’t outright destroy them. Doesn’t make their work partisan. Yeah that’s why closed shops are always better. Don’t have to worry about the moochers
Haha wrong again. Jimmy Carter took away the Members of AFGE right to collective bargaining among other things. Reagan used the new rules to fire the ATC's. Fact......
Lmao yeah if you go all the way back to Carter, but yeah until recently it’s republicans are outright hostile to unions and democrats either didn’t care or would still kneecap just to a lesser extent
Another thread ruined...
Not what you said. History is history. Fact....
Carter isn’t that far back man, especially with the auto industry. You’re a smart guy; the current situation is toxic to everyone. Unless you’re just trying to convince us your personality is treated at the proctologist’s office this thing should resonate towards resolution soon.
Not really sure what your point is? Democrats are supportive of unions and the GOP is hostile towards them is just true. Pointing to singular events from the Carter administration almost 50 years ago doesn’t really disprove that. It’s like saying Biden is just like the GOP on unions since he broke the Rail strike
Pretty much everyone hopes strikes end soon. No one likes them but it’s the only leverage unions have
