All I got from his post game interview was that the play with Cash worked against Tennessee 🤷♂️ ummm we weren’t playing Tennessee. He also ranted about all the NFL scouts in attendance.. ok but glad they weren’t evaluating coaches
it would help if the one time he did get it he hung on to it. Delp is who he is. And Gunner doesn’t utilize the middle of the field. Barbour and Elyiss are better than Delp and Luckie.
I'm both disappointed and encouraged by Gunner's performance so far this season. He has more throwing ability than I thought, and his toughness will always be an asset… but his decision making is still mixed. For example, he's still not picking up some open receivers before prematurely feeling pressure, as well as times when he should run instead of throw. One example in the first half, when we really needed to slow down the Bama train and just get a first down or two to shift the momentum, Gunner had massive green space to get a big chunk and easy first down, but opted to throw (a bad pass) to a receiver not open. Punt right back to Bama, handing them even more physical and psychological edge. I like the kid, and am actually bullish on his ceiling… but sure hope he gets there fast. He's not alone, by the way… promising freshman OL on the right side, and DB Robinson, to name a few, got schooled in key situations. Hope they learn and develop fast, becuase they all have to be better in the SEC grind. Go Dawgs!
Agree. Also find it inexplicable why we, A: Don’t call time or check refs to replay the 3rd down. We may have gotten it. B: If we do go for it on 4th & inches, why not give it to Bowens who was awesome alll night or McCray who can’t seem to be stopped in short yardage. Love Cash, but many better options than handoff to him on that play.
You have to ask, would Bobo even be hired anywhere else? I think we all know the answer is no. Yet, he’s running the O at an elite, top tier program. Makes no sense.
You cannot blame the coaches for the lost. Players need to execute. Don't football the ball we probably win. Catch the ball we probably win. You cannot play perfect all the time, but you have to meet the moment. The players did not do that especially the defense. I saw what I saw. We did not make plays.
Watching the reactions to the lost, as a dawg tan I cannot say anything. The strengths of the team did not show up last night. The secondary is suspect and young. The linebackers were a disappointment. The dawgs defense has been known for being able to run to the ball that did not happen last night. They did not set an edge and did not get any pressure on the qb. You cannot win games like that. On offense, you have a first year starter and you have to caught the ball and not football to help him get into the game. I would say the guy that dropped the ball is a freshmen except he is getting paid which means he does not get a pass. You have to catch that ball. It is going to be a long year.
But he was Kirby's roommate.
Why a toss to Cash who had to clear the right side of the O line manned by two freshmen? I had flashbacks to RIcht and ND last year. Calls that make no sense. Never leave points on the board, especially when you have a lot of time left on the clock.
@lucydog….couldn't agree more with your comments. Bama ran multiple screen plays that gained a lot of yards. We responded like deer in headlights.
Bama OC Grubb had a beautiful game plan that he executed extremely well in the 1st half. We did stuff their running game well in the 2nd half, but it was too little, too late by then. Too many missed opportunities on offense by the Dawgs, too many points left on the field, and mistakes GALORE.
Embarrassing performance all the way around except for a few sprinkles here and there. I don't know what we did for the last 2 weeks, but it didn't look like we were prepared near as well as we should have been.
Make that a FORMER ELITE TOP TIER PROGRAM. Short answer is no, Bobo's ceiling is as a staff analyst at best.
@Max
You’re all over the problem I’ve been complaining about for three years. Of course we might ask is there any program in the country where Bobo wouldn’t have already been fired. He’s killing us at key times with bonehead calls. 4th and half yard and we call a run to the right behind two true freshmen linemen when the left side has been opening holes all night even I could run through. Plus, needed to kick FG and tie the game in the first place. But if you’re going for it, go left! Not that complicated.
Coaching F-. Two weeks !!!! You had two weeks and this is how you respond? Both lines are the definition of insanity . There is way too much money invested in this program to have these results . Defense is lost . Offense is set up to fail with the worst play calling in D1 . How can Gunner look at everyone and call these ignorant plays with a straight face? Ok Cash you get the ball . It’s like a bad Maury show . Kirby , Alabama is your Daddy .
Grades
A Bowens ( very impressive )
B Stockton ( didn't turn the ball over, did enough to win but missed some opportunities )
C WRs ( the TD drop was pretty bad, Humphries has to be able to block better on the edge )
C- OL ( too many breakdowns - see Cash Jones tackle on 4th and 1 )
D Defense ( 3rd down was a nightmare the 1st half )
I TEs ( Incomplete - other than blocking. Bama used their TE all night in the pass game, UGA one incomplete pass )
C OC ( Bobo did fair. Still these slow starts are troubling. )
D HC ( Keep hearing from Kirby that they need to do a better job of coaching - this after two weeks prep time )
F DC ( 2nd game where the D can't rush or cover well )
No way I fault Cash Jones on that ill-advised run on 4th down. The line completely blew it, missing badly on a block. Jones had no chance at all. I wouldn't have called his number UNLESS I was passing to him but no way I fault him for the loss in yards.
I also don't fault Delp on the drop. That ball hit him at the exact moment the DB hit him. It was a really good defensive play. The bad is on Stockton for missing a wide open man. It is pitiful that we don't throw to the tight ends. What in the world happened? Bowers left and suddenly no one is trusted to catch the ball? Such an amazing weapon the TE can be but we refuse to use them. Is it Stockton or is it Bobo?
We should have won that game 31 - 20, a 13 point swing. The difference was a fumble (3), a dropped touchdown (7) and not electing the field goal (3). Make both Frazier and Taylor walk around campus for a week carrying a brick or taping a ball to their hands. That's how it used to be.
