BREAKING: 4-star WR Brady Marchese flips his Georgia commitment to Michigan
BREAKING: 4-star WR Brady Marchese flips his Georgia commitment to Michigan
Welcome to "Sentell's Intel" where Jeff Sentell not only provides you the latest recruiting information, he takes you into the homes of these students and what makes them special to the Georgia program.
Comments
”He took a moment in his signing day ceremony at Cartersville to thank the many coaches in Athens who helped him along the way. Then he unzipped his letter jacket to reveal he was going to be a Michigan man.”
I watched some of that game in the snow last Saturday, wind howling at 20-25 MPH. Go get'um!
BTW @JeffSentell the title in huge font states 4* flip, but then right below it in small font it states “3-star Cartersville HS wide receiver prospect Brady Marchese”
If Dawgn8n is looking to hire an editor, give me a call bro…I have good references, ask Connor,. As your editor I would say go with the 247Comp ranking and have the article reference 4* in both sentences, you’re welcome!
Ah, ain't nothin'.
It's become a media hype for these young guys. UGA will be fine….
We need to do a better job explaining to these kids what the word “commitment” means. Also might be good to tell ‘em if they aren’t 100% “committed” don’t say you’re “committed” to any school until you are 100% “committed.” Because if you are not 100% “committed” you aren’t “committed” by definition of the word “committed.”
Of course, a better solution to the current crap shoot is to treat these kids as contract employees. Do away with a “signing period” and have ‘em sign a contract with a liquidated damages clause requiring a “buy-out” amount if they breach the contract. Some folks always like to point out that coaches can leave so why get upset when a player leaves. While the analogy isn’t a perfect one for fairly obvious reasons, at least coaches, or their new employers/school, have to pay the buy-out amount when a coach leaves before his contract has expired. Why not have the same arrangement for players and recruits in this NIL age?
Yes, it’s a sad day when lying is defended by the culture, but that’s where we are. Therefore, we need safeguards in place to combat the moral decay of our current society. A man’s word used to be his bond. Today, one’s word is meaningless to these recruits. That’s why written contracts should be the norm. Make them or the new school pay the price to the school they first contracted with.
Well Bye
Wow
You know his decision was based on the quarterback flip but we've done pretty well placing receivers in the NFL. I'm guessing he had no confidence in his skills.
Sure, I'll trade the beauty of the University of Georgia campus during the Fall for the frozen wasteland of michigan. I'm sure getting tackled there feels so much better than in the south. What a dumb decision.
No kidding! I wish DN would take you up on it. Esp, CR, who once again is using the "comments off" capability to ensure no one can second-guess his perspectives or proofing. It really makes you appreciate the effort MG has put in to make sure his commentary is fact-based, Dawgs-centric, and well-proofed so that readers can really understand and enjoy the nuances in what now has become an absolutely crazy sport… nothing like 5-10 years ago. A completely different game.
As to Marchese, just as with JC, no issues with freedom of choice… however, the "thanks, f-u" way in which he revealed his decision is beyond immature, even for a high schooler. I know many think this is a sign of the times in society broadly, but I know tons of teens and early 20s folks from across the country… none would pull moves like this. From my PoV, it's the mess the sport we all love finds itself in, not to mention the rise of predatory agents.
That's life… onto an SEC championship game where we all hope the Dawgs show what people outside UGA are missing!
PS: This did not age well -
Georgia 2026 WR Commit Brady Marchese Shuts Down 'Michigan Flip' Rumors, Reinforces Commitment to Bulldogs
I get a fast/quick slot type receiver from the portal to replace Branch. We have some young talented WR's but most all are of the lanky type. The smaller quick guys seem to be able to beat man coverage between the hashes.
i guess the word commitment doesn’t mean anything these days!!!!!!!!
No big loss..Best of luck on the frozen michigan tundra..GoDAWGS!
Why put so much literature into people who are not Georgia Bulldawgs. As a UGA fan i dont care to know about anyone who doesn't care to be at UGA. All the Curtis/Kiffin/DECOMMITS... give that energy to the kids and coaches that ARE a Georgia BullDawg!!!!. Thank you!
Follow the money! Suspect he got a better NIL deal from Michigan. Oracle founder Larry Ellison spent big money last year to help them flip Underwood from LSU, and I would assume he is continuing to spend this year.
I wonder if a money play might have also happened with Jared Curtis. He had his "public" signing ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, but then On3 leaked his "decision" and then he denied it and his agent feigned to know nothing about his decision when DawgNation contacted him. Yeah right! Curtis posted later Tuesday confirming the flip and communicating that his signing would be private. If nothing else, I am glad we were spared one of those dramatic signing ceremonies with 2 hats, pulling off jacket to reveal the flip, etc.
I just have to wonder if the "Curtis Camp" leaked the flip story on purpose hoping that Kirby and UGA would immediately contact him to sweeten his NIL deal. Don't think for a minute that playing "playing both sides against the middle" doesn't happen in current recruiting from high school and through portal. My impression is that Kirby is not playing that game. Would love to really know if that happened here and if Kirby told agent and Curtis family to pound sand!
So, you are finishing up at high school and want to have the greatest opportunity to play Pro. The better your performance the better the odds at going pro. The more playing time the better the opportunity to get a look from the Pros. So you want to go to a school where you will get the most playing time. You are looking at several teams and at your position team #1 has 5 players, team#2 has 3 players and team #3 has 6 players. Which one would give you the greatest opportunity to get playing time with all other factors being equal? For a lot of guys playing college football their decision is based upon which team gives them the greatest opportunity and not necessarily the "brand." This is one approach that may appeal to a lot of guys. That is probably the reason you have guys in the process of recruiting who switch around as well guys using the portal to hopefully get more playing time.
