UGA can get best value bu signing proven transfer portals. Paying HS players 7 figures is outrageous when they have not proven themselves at the college level…
Recruit players that want to stay and get developed, fill the immediate needs via the TP. Another DawgN8N article that failed to mention that AGAIN…but grabbing 23 BLUE CHIP recruits (22 4/5* PLUS the number 1 kicker, not sure why Wade Register the number 2 kicker hasn't signed yet) versus the number 1 SEC leader Bama's 14…let me repeat and emphasize, 23 vs 14 blue chip prospects heading to Bama…is an astonishing feat. The only team to sign more was aTm who bought 24 bluechippers…but hey, let's focus on the first numerical column in the 247Comp rankings, the 1 thru 150 number. Don't know about your thoughts @JeffSentell but if I were stacking depth into a program I believe I would take the class with the most bluechip candidates while saving a bunch of millions just chasing a few 5*s…just saying. I bet you didn't know but…14 bluechip recruits for Bama is the lowest count since 2007. Saban averaged 20+ a year since that time. If I were Bama I would be worried or at the least ask the question, are we paying too much to get 5stars and missing out on a lot of 4stars?
if you don’t have quality depth, you’ll be sitting at home this time of year…hard to build a 3-4 year roster that way. Pretty sure we will still be at least in the top 2 or 3 in blue chips for all players on the team.
Certainly no worries on my end, “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work”,
Heck, I’m even okay with 3 stars, most of this stuff is graded on measurables anyway - from some that have never seen them play live.
Pretty sure the coaches are more qualified for the final grading.
What im confused about is how does UGA go from 2020-2025 (62 players) put in the NFL more than any other college program. And recruits aren't running to sign their name with us.... development should be valued over NIL.
they can’t handle the pressure at Georgia. Look at Pops going to KY.. why? He was a starter and the kid that TP to mizz…Bear Alexander… I don’t they they can’t handle the pressure KS puts on them. Only the tough survive
As am I. Most people don't know this but there are more 3* players drafted into the NFL then 4 and 5*s combined…star ratings = better chances to be drafted in the first round, nothing more than that. Was reading an article about the 2020 NFL draft. 19/5*s and 73/4*s were selected out of all of the 255 draft picks, the remaining 163 were 3*s/2*s/unrated…of course, there is only a 6% chance a 3* or lower will get drafted but that is because there are so many of them. Load up with 4s and 3s, add in a few top notch transfers and presto, you have a number 1 ranked Indiana. Loading up on 5stars used to matter but in today's environment I'd rather load up on committed highly skilled athletes and spend the millions plus on already developed players like Mendoza and a few lethal defensive and WR playmakers than breaking the bank on HS phenom and having no money left to get him a great supporting cast…and failing to recruit a strong supporting cast to boot.
It's all about money now! UGA is never gonna pay the kind of money these other teams will cough up.We're gonna get kids that want a real future of tough coaching and want to get better.
throwing all of this money at highschool talent reminds me of all those years of the NFL signing these qbs outta college to monstrous contracts and then they fizzle out as busts. Like the nfl in that situation, these colleges with all this money will soon place guardrails on this process.
these schools can’t spend all this money and not feel like they are getting something without changing the rules of engagement.
Either way, give me Kirby and them dawgs all day!!!!
JDJ left bc he was gonna have to compete for his starting spot with CJ Allen.
Damon Wilson wanted to roll up sack numbers. We don’t do that here.
Bear Alexander is a kook.
there’s also way more 3 star players which might have something to do with it.
Kirby and staff will develop their players better than these other schools. And at the end of their tenure at UGA they’ll get a solid spot in the NFL draft and make nice $$. Then after a couple of years they will renew their contracts for even more nice $$. All based on the foundation of development they got while with Kirby.
Several, several NFL coaches I’ve read remarked that when players come from UGA under Kirby they’re already ready for the NFL with just a little fine tuning. Kirby will dip into the TP and get some players to fill any holes. I hate to beat this horse to death but this kid Porthro the TE is gonna be a Beast at UGA in time !!
@Gramster From an Internet search best I could see the Punter Wade Register did sign with UGA. If that’s not correct maybe @JeffSentell will clarify for us. Did he sign Jeff ?
Our class is still top notch and Kirby will develop these players - proven record. With all the coaching changes, I see UGA adding more players than usual from the portal. I think we add one to two players on the DL, maybe even one LB, one RB, and one impact WR. I think the portal will be used to make "impactful" depth. I think attitude, work ethic, and personality of the players UGA seeks to add to the team will be heavily considered. If you just want a check, go somewhere else - classic Kirby. Of course, the players UGA adds will also depend on which current players for us enter the portal, too.
Not sure I understand the comment… consistently missing on the top in-state talent is "an over-rated stat"?
More of an alarming trend than an overrated stat.
GA's best young players are leaving the state. Kinda like basketball.
Losing all 9 of these 4 and 5 star players will no doubt have a negative impact on the quality of our football. It's nice to have"sleepers" and players with a lot of upside to develop, but it's nicer to have a Jalen Carter and Nakobe Dean to call on when the chips are down. I think we had a lot of losses in this group—I hope we can overcome it.
