@UGADad20 Durham also won a sec regular season champ in 90. And it wasn’t just Wilkins(he never made the tournament with Nique it was much harder then with 20 less at large bids). But you don’t want to hear facts that destroy your narrative. As @Gramster said there is a young Kirby type of coach out there that would love to take UGA basketball to the promised land and could. The arrogant pompous Josh Brooks was just too lazy to try to find him. Or are you Brooks ??? You guys both make a lot of excuses?

@UGADad20 By all means play your silly personal insult game, how’s this for research? I stated Mediocre Mike won COY thanks to Donovan recruits and according to you my lack of research makes me looks bad, how so? Was it not after the 2016-2017 season that MM was given the honor? Pretty sure Chiozza and Robinson, the future NBA players on that squad, were Donovan recruits as was Hill. Could be wrong but I believe it was Allen (signed by White) was originally a Billy D recruit as well as Hayes. Add this from the “Did you know” file, former South Florida AAC All freshman selection Egbuno was was also a BillyD recruit if I recall, but had to sit out (SEC transfer rule at the time required one year) the 14-15 season and still decided to stick it out with Mediocre Mike for the 15-16 season and beyond. In any event, not important now.

But like I said, lets just see how the next 5 games shake out, yes? One of us will enjoy a nice baked crow dish, as a diehard UGa fan I hope it’s me. All any of us wants is respectable and final 4 type competitive basketball program. And appreciate it if you go easy on the passive aggressive insults, comes across a little trollish…cheers mate.

And the 2nd game after the raise..even worse than the 1st game. Winning by 7 one minute, down by 11, 2 minutes later to a oklahoma team with 2 SEC wins..IMPRESSIVE!

Blown out by a 2-9 team, I’m really glad we locked him down until at least 2031. Would hate to miss out on performances like this…

Same as Gramster, thanks for the correction. A Mid season, pre season raise doesn't make a difference, a raise for making 1 NCAA tourney, and play 1 game is not warranted. Results on the court are the same, regardless of when the raise occured. They win against cupcake non conference opponents, then proceed to show their true team when SEC play starts.

I can’t figure out if Mike G has powers or just a great sense of humor. What perfect timing. Knowing UGA’s hoops history over the past three decades, there’s not a chance in Hade’s that either buyout scenario takes place. What will happen is the Dawgs will continue their mediocre play for the next4-5 years and do just enough in the final year of White’s contract that Brooks will lock him up thru 2041!!!

BLOWN OUT by a team that entered the game with a glittering 2-9 record in SEC play—this on the heels of YET ANOTHER BLOWOUT (at home, no less) at the hands of its longtime most hated and bitter rival. That's the same rival that happily rid itself of a mediocre head coach that UGA actually coveted. What program in the history of sports has ever done this?!

And what do we get from DawgNation? No game coverage at all—just a brown-nosing, bootlicking, butt-kissing, fawning, apple-polishing story about the obscene salary and raise given by UGA to the head coach rejected by the despised gators. That is some downright shameful journalism right there.

It's not the players' fault. Hell, they obviously WANT to win, but with a gutless athletic department that year after year builds the basketball program's deceivingly decent W-L records on a disgraceful OOC menu overflowing with outclassed creampuffs, they simply aren't prepared when they have to face actual competition.

Beyond inexcusable and pathetic—especially in a state so rich with high school hoops talent.

@DawgNole You said it. Funny how the headlines are immediate when they win. When they lose, nada. This is the history of UGA basketball and it doesn't deviate from year to year. Pad your record. Win a few, lose the ones you shouldn't and pray to get in on the bubble. Then either get in and lose the first game, or win two in the NIT. Every. Single. Year. If that's the bar Josh Brooks has set at least say it. Wait, he already did.

    Another collapse last night….

  • GramsterGramster Posts: 781 ✭✭✭✭✭ Graduate

Food for thought…conference record related, at what point does an UGa coach fall from Mediocre to absolutely abysmal?

Absolutely Abysmal first…Tom Crean @ Georgia 15 -57 and 32-18 vs nonC cupcakes

The epitome of Mediocre next…Mark Fox @ Georgia 77 -79 and 86-53 vs a more challenging cupcake schedule

    Borderline abysmal…Dennis Felton 26-59 and 58-32 cupcake

Borderline mediocre…(keep in mind he was fired because of this record after 2 years) Ron Jirsa 13-19 and 22-11 vs nonC cupcakes

Now, shall we compare (questionable if he is even Mediocre)-Mike thru 3.8 seasons 25-41 SEC mark and 48-13 vs the weakest of all coaches mentioned above CUPCAKE NonC record…AND, if we’re lucky, I see maybe 2 more SEC wins and 4 more losses in the last 6 conference games. If so that would give him a stellar 7-11 and 27-45 conference mark…at least NOW we know what we would have had if we had given Felton 4M a year and an extension to stick around, yes? Sweet memories…

I’ma guessing no more basketball articles until our men’s team wins another game so guess I’ll post it here until then…WHAT A GREAT GAME those lady pups played today in knocking off 24-2 Vandy. Congrats on the huge win and excellent coaching Katie…nice to see what you’ve been able to put together in year 4 of that 950k per contract. Nice to have a Georgia coach who bleeds red n black…winning seems to mean more.

Do some research is not a personal insult it is a suggestion.

Donovan's last team was 16-17 regardless of how many players played for White's 27-9 team on '16. So 4 players were common to both teams. "NBA'er's" that were so formidable 1 played 8 NBA game games and 1 avg'd 3.3 ppg in 91 (basically 1 season) games. Are you saying that White took Donovan's last team and turned them from 16-17 into 27-9? It sounds like you are saying that Robinson, Hill and Chiozza's combined 27 ppg was what made Mike White CoY in '17? As for Egbunu , he never played for Donovan. He played for White. He was a Ft. Walton Beach kid that was not recruited by FU (Donovan) out of HS. He stayed and played 2 years for White, none for Donovan. That makes him as much a White recruit as a Donovan recruit.

2/14/26 UGA game. UGA again played w/o leading scorer. #4 scorer and #3 rebounder was also limited to 14 mins by fouls. UGA led at halftime but could not sustain the lead mostly due to outmanned and probably overmatched. Unless you think that White was late for the game and only started coaching after half time.

The next 5 games. 25KY (NIL), TX (NIL), 19Vandy (21-4), SC, AL (NIL). What do you expect to learn from those 5 games? KY, TX, AL have all spent more on their program, players, coaches and facilities. Vandy is 21-4. This UGA team, especially missing its leading scorer, is overmatched in these games regardless of who the coach is. You are making my point for me. Under these circumstances, if UGA should win a few of these games UGA is either underpaying its coach or the players have been underachieving all year.

Maybe look at it this way. Can Hurley take this UGA team to the NCAA's and win a few games? Pitino? Calipari? Hurley is having a hard enough time winning with all his talent at CT. Pitino is ranked 17 with NIL transfers all over the roster. Same w/Calipari (recruits and NIL). There is just not enough talent on this UGA roster to win much more than they have.

BTW GREAT win for the women's team today. Saw the last 15 game mins and thought 3 phantom foul calls by the ref's in the 4thQ would undo the upset. IMO the Vandy team is a bit overrated. And the UGA team is underrated, Previously ranked during course of the year. Both UGA men and women's teams are 10th in the SEC standings.

@PlateauDawg "As @Gramster said there is a young Kirby type of coach out there that would love to take UGA basketball to the promised land and could." It COULD happen. It would be a 1 in a million shot but anything could happen. First you'd have to ID THAT guy. You could make a lot of bad choices before you find another Kirby Smart-type guy. Aren't too many "Kirby Smart type" guys out there. THEN you'd have to get him better players. If you recall CKS was 8-5 in his 1st year at UGA. Then he started getting better players to commit. More commitment was made to the program and UGA football improved tremendously.

The point is, the point all along has been it is more than the coach. WAY more than the coach.

@UGADad20 ”The point is, the point all along has been it is more than the coach. WAY more than the coach.”

And yet, with all its deficiencies in talent attracting accommodations Georgia found an up and coming unknown from Tulsa to pick up upper-mediocre coach Hugh Durham’s roster leftovers and take them to consecutive NCAAs, consecutive conference winning records and two consecutive 20+ win seasons not built entirely on cupcakes and was built o great coaching and scheme. Nothing in Sub-mediocre Mike’s resume suggested either. And yet, raise and extension. In any event, like I said, let’s see how the next 5 games shake out.

oh, and @UGADad20 I noticed the lack of your expert opinion on where MM SEC record of 27 and 45 falls on the scale of 77 and 79mediocre-13 and 19borderline mediocre- 26 and 59 borderline abysmal or 15 and 57 absolutely abysmal…feel free to vote. I am currently in the borderline abysmal category with my vote.
