It's weird how baseball works. Last year he had a pretty decent year at the plate. This year he might as well be playing Little League. Go figure. Maybe a good second half for him? Maybe the best thing is that he is on a one year deal.
The Braves will keep Kim until the deadline. His fate is in his own hands unril then. The elephant in the room right now is Riley. Always one of my favorite Braves, I'm even on board with the scruffy look. Then, I think about last year when Snit grew that goatee and f'd up the whole season. Same thing, right?
I was defending him for a while… still spring training in essence for him… coming off significant injury…but this is ridiculous!
Think Riley's situation as a hitter reminds me of early in John Smoltz career as a pitcher. Smoltz started seeing the sports psychologist and never looked back as he galloped to a hall-of-fame career.
It’s time for Walt to spear someone.
"spear"someone? Don't think I'm familiar with that usage in baseball.
The Braves have scored a total of 2 runs in the last 4 games that Sale has pitched. 'nuf said.
Braves back with a 5-1 win. Lopez gives up 2 hits and 1 run in 5 innings. Great job. The whole pen was great - Fuentes threw a clean inning with only 10 pitches!! If he learns to pitch to contact, we could see a starter who regularly goes 7 or more innings. We did manage 5 runs tonight which a a promising sign…maybe. Could win a series tomorrow night.
Riley finally got an RBI single! Wow!
@donniem You were right I was wrong. The Phillies will be a problem if not the favorites at this point. The Braves personal kryptonite Wheeler is rolling along and they have another guy Sanchez who is just as good. Their rotation looks a lot better right now.
The only silver lining I can see blowing this huge lead is this. It can be a little like a Basketball game sometimes. One team gets ahead by 20 early. Only to see the team trailing rally and cut it to 6. The trend is clear with only one problem. The team catching up is expending a lot of bullets catching up.
My hope with the Phillies is guys like Sanchez and Wheeler are pitching more innings than they would otherwise. That their regulars are playing more making them less effective later. They will not stay this hot not even close.
I dont see the Phillies as any sort of dominant team. This is still more about the Braves blowing a big lead. Which is down to 2.5 but it is 4 in the loss column. Braves have played three fewer games. That helps.
Riley has definitely been an offensive enigma this season. He has been somewhat streaky during his career, but this stretch of sweeper swinging has been hard to watch. Hope he gets right heading into the break and breaks out completely for the final 60 games and beyond. We need that big bat!
Minter still giving up homers at Truist Park
Think I heard one of the radio announcers say it was the first earned run he's given up this year, saying he entered with a 0 era for 15 innings.
Good win for the Braves. Scored 5 runs again - not a lot of hits, but 4 HRs. Good to see the offense coming back to life. Good start by Holmes - just one run in 5 innings. Another nice relief job by Fuentes. Feeling some life coming back into the season.
Great to get the dub but wish it was somebody other than the "Big 3" that got all the hits and RBIs!
