It must have been his second or third at bat that he got it…..I always remembered it as his first at bat…But it was magnificent!
50+ years ago easy to get that wrong.
The Milo Hamilton hometown call is good too. Just something about Vin Scully. Never liked the Dodgers but man I could listen to him call a game. His call of Gibson's homer in the '88 WS is something of legend too. Guy gives me the goosebumps.
Yep, Milo made sure he was on the Mic for that one…..should have been Ernie Johnson Sr but, hey, it worked
"….the greatest home run hitter of all time and its Henry Aaron!"
Pretty much sums it up, right!?
Ding, Ding
Bobby Thompson in the fall of 1951 hit the HR off Ralph Branca of the Brooklyn Dodgers to send the NY Giants to the World Series! I think it was a one game tie breaker situation between the Giants and the Dodgers. They called it that because Armed Forces Radio was broadcasting to the American Troops stationed around the world and especially those in Korea who were stationed there during the Korean War.
The TV series M.A.S.H had an episode where they showed everyone listening to the call on the radio…..awesome stuff!
Not to jinx our lads, but by the 4th inning EVERY Brave had at least one hit. Among those were HRs by "Rake" Baldwin and Matt Olson. Sale with 5 shutout innings and only 62 pitches. Less that 13 per inning - very Maddux like. Sale can't have to worry about non-support at least for this game. Hope the offensive explosion is an omen of things to come. And…they are up 8-0 going into the 5th inning.
Update: Braces win 15-1. They even let their relief pitcher Mederos hit and he drove in 2 runs with a hard hit single. the Rangers; backup catcher was pitching but still…So the layoff didn't hurt the Braves' offense any. Another great start by Sale. Hope the Phils lost,
My favorite forever Hank Aaron "The Hammer, Hammering Hank" always humble. Go Braves. 😎
And I thought our 15 runs against Texas was impressive. The National pasted the hapless Athletics 23-4. Andres Chaparro was 4 for 5 with 2 hr's and 8 rbi's.
Tough loss last night. Scored enough but couldn't stop them enough. Murphy had a rough start and the pen wasn't perfect like they often are. Still we had our chances but left some RISP. Go for the series win today.
Braves up 8-4 in the bottom of the 8th. Riley has awoken from his coma. He's got 2 HR so far and has been really swatting the ball this series. Baldwin continues his heater with a couple also.
Now, if we can just get a healthy Ronald back….
Phillies and Marlins both lost. Good day for the Braves.
👌
Excciting 3-2 win for Bravos. Not many hits but all the runs came from HR's. Great relief job by Victor Mederos, with the BP limited to just a few guys tonight. Nice quality start by Elder. Just gave up 2 runs in 6 innings. Good to have him back even with the 2 HR he gave up, but not much else.
Playing better ball coming out of the break. Acuna back soon.
Looks like Schwelly may not make it back this year. But I think AJ Smith Shaver should be back. Strider is done.
We need to pair somebody up with Sale for the Postseason. Right now I dont see a solid #2 guy behind him. Unless you move Fuentes back to starter he has shutdown stuff. Cant do that until you get Suarez back.
Not saying they will get Skubal or someone like that. Way too expensive for the Braves way of doing things. But I would be surprised if someone isn't added.
Wheels are coming off for the Marlins looks like they will not be a threat.
Also questionable about Waldrep being able to return. This whole thing about pitchers getting hurt across baseball - youth leagues up to the majors - is crazy. How do you tell a kid not to throw as hard as he can when that is seen as a ticket to the pros. I also wonder about the role of early specialization in sports - kids always used to play 3-4 sports a year, giving their pitching arms time off. Now it seems they throw hard all year long. I think this is greed - travel ball is a money maker for some - lots of money - and it lasts all year long except for the actual baseball season. Then there is the parental desire to see their kids succeed - a kind of greed, really.
Sorry for the rant.
Show you how crazy baseball is…
Red Sox were 37-48 and pretty much buried in the AL East. They've won 14 in a row and are now 51-48 and right back in the mix.
14 in a row doesn't happen often.
The Braves are gonna be doomed in the post season without getting spme pitching help. Who are the Braves going to give up to get even a rental? The Philthies are shooting themselves in the foot trying to help us out, but this pitching situation is serious.
