That’s a really nice line-up right there. Pretty much mirrors mine for many years. These days I stick pretty much to Basel Haden.

Looking forward to these new releases by Buffalo Trace. As an aside, I got a bottle of Four Roses 130 year over the weekend that I'm really excited about. Lastly, I have access to a bottle of Stagg Antique Collection. I already have a bottle but would be open to a trade for the Eagle Rare Antique.

    Happy hunting gents!

After the McGregor vs Mayweather fight, Conor was sippin some 12 year old Irish whiskey. Does anybody know what that was, and about how much it costs? I love aged whiskey that's so smooth you can sip it all night. Can't do anything clear but shine lol. I've got some strawberry 110 proof right now and boy is it smooth!

Conor has his own line of Irish Whiskey, which is sourced somewhere else and just re-labled (not a big deal, most bourbons are the same)

I have not tried it yet but I have seen it in stores here for $30

I wish I had a bottle trade, I would love to come across a bottle of the Stagg in the wild

As far as those two BT releases I would try if I saw in stores, based on the price. But I have tried a couple of the double oaked bourbons on the market and while I did not hate I also did not love. Different flavor profile. I can see how some would enjoy it though

He called it something and the #12. I think it's 12 years old. What's the smoothest aged whiskey you know of that's affordable?

  • tfk_fanboytfk_fanboy Posts: 1,596 ✭✭✭✭✭ Graduate

I just looked it up, it is called Proper 12. I will say the reviews have not been kind

to answer your question: it depends. first, affordable is relative. in my mind $30 or less is what I would call affordable if talking canadian/american/irish whiskey. if talking scotch or japanese then should bump up to $50+

and once you have your price range then it comes to personal preference. if go american then you have ryes, wheaters, etc. each country/style has a lot of varieties.

if you want smooth at a great price I think it is hard to beat Jameson. sub-$20 and great. but there are two Irish whiskies I like more but at a much higher cost (green spot and red breast 12)

for american see if you can find bernheim. it is a wheater.

here is a list of American whiskeys that"used to be under $30 but you might get lucky and still find at that price"

    Buffalo Trace

    Weller

    Elijah Craig

    Wild Turkey 101

    George Dickel 12

    Larceny

    Henry McKenna bottled in bond

    1792

    Sazarac Rye

    Bulleit

those are all fantastic . some are easy to find (larceny, for example) and some are a bit more rare (Weller, for example) but all worth buying. out of that list the henry mckenna BiB is probably my favorite but I enjoy everyone of them

not a fan of the Basil for what it cost. at $45 or so there are so many I would choose over it. I like it just fine but I feel it fits in better around $30-$35. It is smooth, but lacks depth and flavor, imo. If it did not cost so much it would be one of my top recommendations for folks looking to drink on the rocks for the first time. those coming over from just cocktails. that low proof makes it easy to get down

This is my current "Bourbon Stash". Just recently picked up the bottles of Blanton's and Eagle Rare; should be cracking them soon!

Weller SR is readily available is South Ga. i can go to any number of liquor stores and buy a case at $17.99 a bottle. OWA is a little more difficult to find, but I bought two PS for $34.99 last time I was in Atl.

I can't afford anything over 45 dollars but if you've never tried Mitcher's then you need to pronto! Especially the one with the blue label, very easy sipping.
