The announcers did make a good point about that a couple of times. Flow was set up low and outside. Pitch missed the target and was on the inside corner of the strike zone. Even though in the zone he had to lunge a bit to catch it. The extra movement adds to the perception of the pitch being even more inside. @WCDawg 's laser proposal would fix that, though. Can we take the laser strike zone back to the 97 playoff series against the Marlins and re-play it?
It does make the ability to adapt/adjust t important for pitchers. Does anyone know how the robot strike zone adjusts for different height batters?
I'm sure they can just enter the batters' height and it would adjust accordingly. Batters would have to be measured by the MLB, so that Aaron Judge doesn't say he's 5'6".
As I understand it There is a metric used that uses a batter's dimensions and stance into account. It always looks about right to these eyes.
Good news and bad news for Braves today. Good news - Markakis is back in lineup tonight, playing left field and batting fifth. Bad news - Camargo has fractured shin and is likely done for the season. Would be nice to have the switch-hitting Camargo available for the post-season, but doesn’t seem likely.
What happened to Freddie tonight? See he left after 2 AB’s.
Didn’t see it, I was cooking. Anyone know? But good to see Markakis have a great first game back.
Hurt his right elbow/arm when he dove for a ground ball in the hole.
Thanks! That sucks though! Injuries have taken their toll on this team this year and yet here we are leading the division.
I love this team. A 5-0 win on the road against Max Scherzer. The RBIs came from Markakis, Joyce, Ortega, Albies and Swanson, everybody contributes.
You never know how a team will perform in the postseason but the indicators keep getting better and better. Tonight Soroka pitched a 1 hit shutout over 6 innings and the pen pitched 3 shutout innings, everybody contributes.
Hopefully Freddie is ok, if not it would be the first bad news in awhile. I guess if he misses some time Donaldson would slide down to the 3 hole and Markakis would move to 4th in the order.
Good news on Freddie’s injury, brief flare-up of an old bone spur issue in his elbow. Said after the game that he expected to play tomorrow, or Sunday at least.
I’d rather see Nick at 3 and Donaldson stay at clean up personally.
Magic number is 6 now. We could almost have this wrapped up by the end of the weekend.
I'd be ok with that. It looks like a moot point for now. Still, bone spurs can move and become problematic.
Browsing through the 4 letter website this morning and one of their writers said he wasn’t sure anyone in the NL would get past the Braves in the playoffs.
He also did a much better job of not allowing passed balls last night. I think the 2 are connected. He's usually at the top of MLB in number of passed balls. I'll take the poor framing over balls flying past him any day that runners are on base.
Id leave his ass at the house. Give me Mc and Cervelli all day.
With the exception of St. Louis The Braves have handled every potential rival in The NL over the past month and a half (we haven't played them in that period). That said, The Cards are our likely 1st rd opponent. I think they are tied with our Bravos for the best record in The NL since June.
The game starts in about 15 minutes. Folty is pitching today, I'm very interested to see how he does, it's time to get down to figuring out the rotation for rd one of the postseason.
