I'm not all that worried that Folty gave up those runs. We were up 11-0 at the time and Folty had been sitting on the bench for a really long inning as we batted around. Newcomb and Greene... not so sure.
I'm glad too!
I'm not worried about Folty's arm, he looks to be back to near 100% physically. I hold my breath where his demeanor/focus/self confidence is concerned though. I'm not sure I've seen another pitcher who looks very confident one minute and then seems to be fighting for control of himself the next minute. Some of his pitches were A+ last night. Hopefully he'll have enough success to chase the demons away. That is what concerns me about giving up those runs, will they bounce around in his head from now till his next start ?
I hope management has a sports psychologist working with him everyday for awhile.
I just left a message with Braves' Baseball Operations suggesting Folty needs to be working with a sports psychologist every day for awhile. I'm shameless in that way, but I've gotten results before.
Given the club's history with Smolztie, I'd be stunned if they hadn't seriously considered this. Still...good on you for the suggestion. Can't hurt.
Freddie is on a roll.
Flowers hit into a triple play with the bases loaded and no outs. I swear I can't recall him coming through once this season. We had a huge opportunity to bury The Twins in a very important game considering we have the red hot Mets and then The MLB leading Dodgers at home coming up.
WC I think you're right. We had a couple of doubles like three weeks ago, does that count? Still feeling good about how Fried is pitching but good lord you can't hit into a triple play
Never, ever hit a grounder to the 3rd base side of the infield in that situation.
He probably wasn’t trying to. I think he was probably trying to hit a home run. Poor execution if you ask me.
Would have much better off just standing there and taking every pitch
No doubt it was unintended, it goes to bat control and being cognizant of the situation. Coming into this game Flowers' OBP was .307, that is a rally killing stat on a team that otherwise is top 5 out of 30 teams in OBP. McCann has a .344 OBP, maybe he should get the lion's share of starts at the catcher position.
I agree Flowers is struggling, but McCann has a lot of wear and tear on his tires, so I think they're purposely limiting his innings.
I'm sure you're right Teddy. We have what we have the rest of the season, but management needs to find a second catcher who is pretty good defensively and isn't a rally killer before camp next winter.
Ozzie with homer number 2 on the day
