Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

I read a lot, too, but almost exclusively non-fiction.
@tfk_fanboy I HIGHLY recommend (if you do not already have it??) the FREE APP for listening to FREE AUDIOBOOKS in the library APP known as “overdrive”... there’s also a later version called “Libby” too.
YOU can listen to downloaded FREE audiobooks through your local library using your library card and your iphone (or Samsung) from their online virtual library. These are the exact same books that people PAY Audible for!!! AMAZING!!!
Fear In Loathing is not exactly a classic in the traditional sense, but is very entertaining nonetheless. Did you read Hunter Thompson's stories as a Journalist for the LA Times at the back of the book? Very interesting indeed.
absolutely, I used to use Overdrive and currently use Libby. I have an Audible membership and do the 12 credits at once, and now with the recent Plus update I have more books than I could listen to, but I still use Libby for something I don't want to pay for. Usually a short book, a book my son wants to listen to, etc. But it is a fantastic resource that more folks should take advantage of.
@tfk_fanboy Awesome. So? (my full disclosure here) with my schedule, and my deteriorating eyesight at age 57??? I do not actually "read" all that much anymore. LOL I really DO love audio-books though!!!
Absolutely. I still read but I just have less time to sit down for hours. With audiobooks I can listen while driving, cutting the grass, cooking, in the shower, etc. And some audiobooks with full casts, sound effects, have such a high production value that listening is the superior format. Then also can add some of the really old stories (such as The Iliad and The Odyssey) were originally listened to and you are able immerse yourself in an authentic way.
I know some like to poo-poo audiobooks but I am a huge fan.
Amen. I've missed a few on that list but I've read everything ever written by Hemingway and Faulkner. Couldn't be more different in style, but I love both.
Sequitur: if you enjoy parody, and you owned an FM radio in 1981, you'll appreciate this.
Good call on Faulkner. 'The Sound of Fury', 'Intruder in the Dust', and 'The Hamlet' should also be on the OP. Also, no list of classics would be complete without Joyce's 'Ulysses'.
My bad, Joyce is most decidedly not American. That said, he's a brilliant Irish writer that everyone should read.
I'm 1/2 through chapter 6
Hemingway is my favorite. I was in Paris this past January and hit a few of the Hemingway landmarks.
Did you go to Harry's Bar in Paris? I was there in 2017 and had a blast.
absolutely. That was my favorite place to drink while there. Did Hemingway's in the Ritz, a Michelin spot, the restaurant at the top of Montprnasse , a couple other nice/fancy places, and a couple dives. But Henry's NY Bar was my favorite. And I got a hot dog too.
Not Sure if I remember. I do remember and I was surprised How much my wife liked the movie
Unless reading a comic book or Cliff Notes counts (so I could pass HS English), none.
