Missing Freddie Freeman there. Olson is good, but he’s not the hitter Freeman is.
Yeah, Olson was never going to hit for average like Freddie. But Olson is below all his career averages this season, besides HRs. I think that’s the main reason he was signed, the long ball. In that area he is better than Freddie. But that’s it.
Man it is so very tough to love these teams from Georgia, and hope that it somehow all works out. They are playing their collective tails off, and it sometimes still does not get to the "W". Makes an appreciation (for me) of just how difficult, precious and rare that last year's 2021 World Series Championship was to get after waiting for it since the 1995 season. GO BRAVES!!!
The problem is that type of hitter is susceptible to great pitching, which he may see more of in the playoffs. I suppose it may not matter, but if I were a Braves fan I’d be concerned.
I agree. Heck, he is susceptible, at least right now. to less than great pitching. When he's facing DeGrom et all, must about any hitter will struggle, including him.
He's had a rough month for sure. But overall not too concerned, as I never expected him to be on Freddie’s level. Most hitters struggle against great pitching, that's why they're great pitchers. He definitely needs to pick it up as the postseason approaches, but I was never expecting a .300+ batting average from him when the Braves signed him. Approaching 30 HRs and 100 RBIs isn't terrible, especially considering his past month's slump. The postseason is just as much about getting hot at the right time, so hopefully he can channel his inner Soler as September finishes and heads into October.
"he can channel his inner Soler..."
Outstanding!
Go Braves! Hate on Mets!
I'm not sure what is lifetime BA is, but I was expecting he'd be .260-.270 with 30+ HR 100+ RB. He may come close to those power #s, but he's hitting in the .230's now. He was a doubles machine in the first half of the season, but even that has fallen off. I'll do some research and see how far off my expectations were from his lifetime stats.
Here is what I found.
Lifetime batting average .248. So he is about 14 pts lower so far this year. Not horrible.
Lifetime OPS.840. This year he's at .774 - a deficit of 66 points. Not that dood, I don't think because he does get on base a good bit, meaning his power stats are a bit down.
His best year ever:
BA ,271
HR 38
RBI 111
OPS .911
He currently has 142 lifetime HR's in 575 games - the 10th fastest to that mark in MBL history.
He needs to get hot and soon.
If I was making out lineup, move Harris to 3rd pushing back Riley to 4th and Olsen to 5. Make Ozuna fulltime dh unless Acuna can't go in field.
Maybe Ozuna can show enough that they can unload him to some team this winter.
Offense painful to watch.
Indeed. They seem t have gone dormant at the worst possible point in the season.
Tonight's the night, offense is gonna wake up.
I like how you think, sir!
Go Braves!
I wonder why Snit hasn't given Olson a day or two off. Hes' played so many innings this year - even Swanson has had some off time. Maybe he's just physically or mentally fatigued. Riley could have given him a game or two at first base.
