I didn’t say anything just a question but figured you would take that route. Yeah it’s the parents fault that he was in that situation at all end of story. He should be suing them for neglect but guess what they don’t have any money. But you know who does? That’s right the couple that took you in when you were homeless. About $200 mil and not from the movie or oher contracts etc. I don’t care how talented he was if the tuohys didn’t take him in there’s no guarantee he would’ve had the support to make it like he did. It’s more likely he ends up like his parents than not with home life turmoil he had. If they did him wrong which I do not believe there’s any evidence of that yet (show me the money trail) then he deserves what he’s owed. Don’t forget that the tuohys deserve part of the money too.
Why would he sue his parents? The state removed him from their custody at 11. He's suing to have a conservatorship that the Tuohys put him in ended with a proper accounting of his finances which is something they are already obligated to provide on an annual basis as his conservators. He was already successful before living with them for his senior year and being put under an unnecessary conservatorship. Saying the Tuohys account for all of his success and kept him from becoming a poverty stricken drug addict is absurd.
Tremendously helpful, but overstated. You are desperately trying to make a point that doesn't exist.
We see it completely differently.
But I certainly don’t know the whole story. Certainly not trying to change your mind, although it seems that isn’t possible.
But you do seem to just make assumptions of what happened early on when I believe (obviously making assumptions as well) that the Tuohy’s help was instrumental.
I’ll just end with helping young people is extremely difficult and knowing the right thing to do isn’t always black and white.
Michael was not already successful when he moved in with the Tuohy’s his senior year. He was basically homeless going from house to house
Why sue his parents? Perhaps because he needs money. Maybe to drum up interest in his new book. Desperate people do crazy things. They already have a trust for him. Why is he only now, at age 36, contesting his conservatorship? I'm beginning to believe Mike isn't' all that smart...
Are you confusing the Tuohys for his parents?
Do you not think someone can be helpful while also having their contribution overstated? Seems a rather trivial concept to grasp
He was a standout athlete with a rough living situation. It’s not that uncommon. Moreno, Gurley, Owens, Jackson, etc.
They made a movie about his relationship with the Touhy's, not his birth parents. I'd say they were tremendously helpful and not overstated. Nobody would know who this guy was without the Touhys.
Too many red flags to think things were on the level
Nah that’s insane. He was a highly recruited athlete before them
How many of them had a move made about them?
You know there are a lot of levels between being a nobody and having a movie made about you right? It’s the norm for well-known football players to not have movies about them. But I will concede that he likely would not have been exploited for a film that portrayed him in a tremendously negative light if not for the Tuohys.
Yep, but no guarantee his turns out the same. There are many great athletes that don’t make it because of a terrible home life and upbringing. He was successful and played in the NFL. We just don’t know if that would’ve been the same fate if they didn’t take him in.
Definitely agree it skewed his trajectory in a positive trajectory.
You mean this fictionalized version of the events? Based on a true story, not the actual story. It’s clear here who read the book and who just watched the movie.
The movie was a vehicle for Sandra Bullock to show off and for privileged people to feel good about being a savior.
The book actually told the whole story while also being about protecting the blind side of a QB and the history of the LT position.
A vehicle for Bullock? She already had 37 movie credits before this, including the Speed movies, the Miss Congeniality movies, The Lake House, The Proposal and only did another 11 after. She had already produced or executive produced 9 other films. She had her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame 4 years prior to the movie. What an absolute dismissal of an established talent in Hollywood.
I do think the entire story has been misrepresented as singularly belonging to Oher. The Tuohy's are not the main character obviously, but they are integral to what happened.
When facts are not in evidence I tend to go with Occam's razor. In that vein, I find it plausible that the Tuohy's chose conservatorship over adoption either because their legal rep told them to or perhaps they truly weren't ready to make Oher a legal family member.
But more importantly, it makes little sense that they knew the book/movie/Michael himself would be a tremendous financial cash cow. If they did see that coming, then they signed a really bad deal for him and themselves. Anyone who could foresee book and movie success would have inked a MUCH better deal. I think it makes more sense that the reason they got involved legally at all is simple....they wanted him to go to Ole Miss.
If they wanted to continue "banking" on Oher's financial windfall, then wouldn't Oher be claiming their cut of his NFL contract? At the time, that would have been a more guaranteed bet. When he signed his NFL contract, why didn't the conservatorship come up? Did he not even speak to the Tuohy's about it? They were on good terms then.
If the Tuohy's motivation is suspect, then so is Oher's.....currently on a book tour, taking full advantage of the current socio-political environment.
All good points
Vehicle for Bullock meaning she’s the star and she got it made.
