I thought "dei", meant "diversity, equity & inclusion" for one or more preferred group(s) over another 2nd tier group. I don't care how you classify em up. But, I don't think it's just a race thing. Maybe I'm wrong. Lol

    “Diversity, equity, and inclusion

     (

    DEI

) are organizational frameworks that seek to promote the fair treatment and full participation of all people, particularly groups who have historically been underrepresented, marginalized, or subject to discrimination based on identity or disability.

    [1]

These three notions (diversityequity, and inclusion) together represent "three closely linked values", which organizations seek to institutionalize through DEI frameworks.

not sure how the concept of DEI applies to Thorson winning the Ray Guy award but being second team SEC

Do you think it's fair to create a undeveloped playing field, for "The Meritorious"? Cause, that's what it does. Just sayin'.

Congrats young man, hoping for the best at whatever you choose next.

that has nothing to do with what I’m talking about. You may not like DEI…I don’t really care. I’m trying to get to the idea of why you think Thorson being second team sec has anything to do with DEI…because it doesn’t look like it does to me. JMHO

I don’t know about DEI or no DEI don’t want to get into that argument at all. But it seems to as a whole our Dawgs get snubbed the majority of the time. My wife said she used to think I was just over sensitive but after watching the various and numerous sleights over the years she’s now says Wow your right !!

I think one of the reasons might be because Kirby has brought the program to such a high level in such a short period of time that it scares other bases in CFB. They feel they need some sort of edge.

I’m SO proud of Thorson especially after what he’s been through. But I believe there other Dawgs who should have got awards or went higher on the ALL SEC lists. But in the end Kirby, our Dawgs, and we the fans just want to Win !! Dawgs win the Ntl. Title then the whole program receives a great award !! Go Dawgs !!

Sorry bout that, man. Lol...premature post. And, incorrect. I handed my phone to my 6 yr old Niece...to do her YouTube Kids thing...and, I guess it posted.

Sooo....what I was getting at, despite my apparent misunderstanding of the dei thing, is....

Since, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M & Missouri joined the SEC...along with the previous SEC Darlings, LSU & Bama....they seem to rake in the lions share of awards and hype.

Guys like Bennett & Bowers are given cursory hype and an attaboy.…when both of em should've been Heisman Favorites. Didn't Alabama just have a WR win the Heisman. Lol

UGA is "historically" under-represented and under-hyped...every year, going waaaay back. Kirby has been fighting that bias and slowly winning...since he's been there. He knows what I'm talking about...I bet. Lol

I still remember 1981...when the "big debate" was between Herschel Walker and South Carolina's, George Rogers.

They had just articulated a reason for NOT giving Herschel the '80 Heisman, due to his being a Freshman.

Then...before everybody had cable...much less an ESPN. Nearly, every single CFB show was pushing Rogers for the Heisman over Walker. Sports pages were littered with comparisons.

Imo.…and a lot of others....they owed Walker the Heisman in 1981. He made it impossible to deny him in 1982. If he had gotten injured, during that period.…there's a good chance, the best running back in college football, wouldn't have won the Heisman. The bias is real…imo.

Oh...look at that...Johnny Manziel was the first "Freshman" Heisman Trophy Winner. From "Texas A&M"....imagine that!?. Lol

That was probably the biggest snub out of the many snubs the Dawgs have got. In no necessary order it’s been for years and years Notre Dame, Ohio St. Michigan, Alabama, USC, Florida, Tennessee as like Engraved Elite status. Though USC, Florida, Tennessee have about been dropped from the club. Notre Dame at the very least is in extreme danger if not out. I might have missed one or two. But for many, many years it was almost like an obligation to put these teams in the top 10 Regardless of previous year or even previous two years performances. And it just dawned on me need to add TX and OK to that list.

If a player from one of those schools had a pretty good season you could stand by for them to get an award Regardless if a player from another school had Better stats and did More to help their team win.

Now I’m not necessarily talking about the most recent years but for the longest time those teams were considered “special”. Saban for example built a legacy while he was there and it appears even since he left of FEAR to snub him !! I’ll always think he was at least a good part of why ESPN let David Pollack go.

The bias is SO wrong, but if Kirby can just keep the Dawgs winning at high levels and No it doesn’t mean a National Title every year or even an SEC Title every year but right there knocking on the door it’ll be very hard to ignore Kirby and UGA. Let’s say for instance if our Dawgs would’ve went 10-2 in the regular season this year with losses only to say Bama and Ole Miss, of course we Dawgs fans would be disappointed, no doubts. But that would be a very respectable season in the SEC and CFB especially if KS and the Dawgs followed up with a successful post regular season. Dawgs are gonna have to WIN their way to respect where by all appearances those “legacy” teams get theirs in many cases it appears by Who they are not What they’ve done. Just my opinions.

that was actually 1980. Herschel finished 3rd that year. 1981 was Marcus Allen at USC beating Herschel Walker.

That's right. Lolol ...sometimes my memory gets things a little mixed up, when it comes to that period.

In 1980...Herschel should have won the Heisman. I think we all know that.

'81....everybody "expected him to win....but, he had an off year. Mainly due to Dooley teaching him a new running style, to protect him. Herschel stopped plowing through.…and started "following his blockers". That actually cost him some yardage....and, "style points"...imo.

'82.…They were gonna give it to him....or we were gonna invade the North again. Lmao. We actually, expected him to be the 2nd 2-time winner....but, we know how that saga went.

Herschel EARNED the Heisman. I can't say that about some of the others. Including Manziel. He had 1 great year (as a Freshman).

Imagine that....1st Freshman Heisman Trophy Winner comes from one of the midwesterners....and fairly new to the SEC...Texas A&M.

Texas is the Midwest now haha

Johnny Manziel had an amazing season that year. He definitely deserved the Heisman.
