youre right it is all speculation but not necessarily unfounded speculation. Based on his past teams and personnel decisions for the bowl game I do get the feeling he wants to be a little more athletic up front. But having like 310-320 pound OLineman is smaller for us, and I don’t think anyone would call that line undersized lol.
He may very well be looking for a different type of lineman.......I've just never seen it written or explained by him. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
My point is there seems to be rhetoric started on here about what Luke wants. Things get passed around on this forum enough that people start believing it.
Would love to see the article if it exists.
Luke may very well want quicker lineman......but that doesn't necessarily mean he wants smaller lineman......like what was suggested.
If he found a 7' 400lb OT that was faster than any other lineman......I'm sure he'd take him.
Greg Little and Leramy Tunsil weren't exactly small.
I'm in no way suggesting that Luke doesn't have a different philosophy than Pittman. I would be confident in suggesting he probably does. Just haven't read what that philosophy was.
And some on here seem comfortable sharing what Luke's philosophy is......or isn't.
Yeah I agree with this. But on the other hand, what is the off-season for is not wild fan speculation!
Yes. Wild fan speculation. Especially since Kirby rarely gives media much access. Which leaves us with wild fan speculation
Thoughts on Evans - nothing i've seen is really known/proven facts. I still think something may have happened after his NLI was submitted. The NLI includes a FAA detailing the scholarship inc. time-frame, amount etc. Maybe the combination of GPA and ACT scores didn't allow him to enroll early (or something else) in which case the NLI could be deemed null and void as the FAA terms were no longer valid. There may be no dispute between the parties involved, just the "contract" is no longer enforceable. The key question is does Evans enroll at LSU or TAMU before the deadline for spring classes expires. If it was a Kirby/Evans issue alone wouldn't he have just enrolled somewhere else?
I can't believe we're collectively still posting Evans updates on page 1185 of this thread...incredible, but here we are.
I don't think this is the same reason (eligibility) that we heard from @SoFL_Dawg the week Evans was supposed/didn't announce, but I admit that seems like months ago at the refresh rate of the recruiting world. That said - perhaps there is something to an academic issue (?). My understanding is that he was done with his HS requirements to enroll early, that it would be good for him to be in a structured environment vs staying in his current one with too much extra time on his hands before enrolling in June somewhere, etc.
If he has completed/graduated from HS, then why wouldn't he have already signed & enrolled somewhere else?
Maybe @texdawg can confirm whether he has graduated and/or if he know whether he was academically eligible to enroll early somewhere?
Unrelated topic on another recruit that didn't end up at UGA: heard an interview with Theo Johnson on the 247 Penn State podcast today. He didn't go into any detail about Georgia specifically but I thought it was interesting that the prime reasons he cited for choosing Penn State were:
Also - he updated on his injury...MRI in the coming week at PSU but he said specialists he's seen in Ontario are highly confident that there's no serious damage/may not require surgery despite how bad the injury appeared when it happened (he said they were unable to pop his shoulder back in place at the field, so people assumed there was structural damage keeping the medical staff in Orlando from treating it on the spot.
Still would have liked to see him in the red and black but sounds like a good kid and wish him the best -
Seems I remember a couple of articles after Blaske and maybe Willock signing. Maybe Carvell or Griffith not sure. Maybe just a rumor thread.
Also on SEC film room, Rich Rod and or Luke went in depth on their guards pulling aggressively and being used differently to set up run plays for JRP at second level. I will be on lookout for that segment.
I agree and not being contrary but you can have “smaller” guards and still like “bigger” tackles. But, like Tex said, if you can play you can play.
Thanks, and I figured most of that. It is especially good to hear that the first one to raise their hand between BG and CW is in. CW's talent is appetizing, but the pretty haired Trevor Lawrence proved you don't need CW's wheels to expand offensive capability from s signal callers perspective.
I'll take two 7' 400lb OTs that are faster than any other lineman. Please and thanks.
Good point.
I found one article by Chip quoting Blaske Saying Coach Luke likes his wrestling background and wanted more athletic guys up front. That’s not Coach Luke saying that though so not fair to read too much into a recruiting pitch.
Also the SEC film room segment with RR focused more on using the running back to pull on run plays with the guard rather than the guards doing anything special.
Counter the 7 footers with hobbits.
Zach Evans is on an OV to Florida today so is not enrolled anywhere at this point
That his his 4th OV (went to Ole Miss yesterday) with 1 left 👀
UPDATE The OV to Florida has just been deleted from his 247 Timeline. Seems like Kiffin made an impression?
Where did you see he was on an OV to Florida?
