TE will work itself out. We’ll have at least one 5 star, maybe 2. If not, the other TE will be either a TE with tremendous upside or a guy that looks like the traditional UGA TE.
The worst case we take 1 five star and look at 21 and beyond for additional TE talent. Doesn’t have to be forced. If these kids are feeling like they’re a WR first or need to demand the ball, need to dictate the offense, need to dictate the type of routes run, Kirby will move on. Our offense will not be built around a TE, but the right TE, with the right mindset, can be a pivotal part to future success. They can get with the program or get run over by the program. Calling a spade a spade, not too many WRs crushing it in the NFL that run nearly a 4.9 40. But salesmen will sell...
Again, we’ve seen this movie before at other positions. Better to sort this out now vs bringing them in only to see them pout and transfer later. Once games start hopefully the light will come on.
Washington and Theo> Arik/ large all day every day
Will we have to offer BJ to get back into the driver seat with him? (or do we even have room for BJ?)
Bigger fish to fry
@FuzzyDawg I’m very confused at anyone down voting your post. My guess? DawgNation forum must be (has to be?) just chock full of TROLLS. That must be (in a perverse way) a good thing. Georgia getting more, and more, and more “Haters”??? That’s a sign that GEORGIA is definitely trending UP!!! GO DAWGS!!!
What percent chance do you guys give us with Sewell? Is there a backup plan?
Creamsicles all excited about the foggy CB on Arik.
For what it's worth, because I do not have any inside knowledge, what @SoFL_Dawg is saying about the TE position makes perfect sense to me and sounds like it is information that is coming from the coaches.
I don't know if it was him or another poster but it seems like some of the issue is that one or both of them may not feel comfortable playing with the other.
This is a legitimate concern that young kids would have. Seems the staff believes they should take 2 TEs. They want 2 good ones. Seems that at least one of them would prefer that it just be one TE - or at least just one highly rated TE.
This will work out in the end. No reason to rush it.
IMHO... You take the one who doesn’t mind playing with the other, and you let the other guy either get over it or go to another team. You’re better off no matter what he decides.
Also, that Notre Dame game at night in Sanford is going to be a recruiting bonanza.
Kirby is going to fill up that new end zone facility with so much talent it’s going to be a crazy who’s who of recruits. And they are all going to hear how loud it can get and they are all going to see us light up he stadium. No matter where a player is committed to, they are going to try to take that official.
Gonna be an important game to win!!
I was at a sponsor event a few months ago and I had a rare opportunity to speak one on one with our beloved Jeff Sentell. I asked him about Arik. He seemed really excited talking about this kid. More so than normal. Jeff also said what he loved about Arik was how polished he was, he's fluid, he's a great route runner and he's extremely athletic. I kept trying to shift the conversation to talk about another TE but Jeff kept going back to Gilbert. Don't sleep on Gilbert's talent level. I know a lot of people disagree, but I think the hometown pull matters for Arik. In the end, I see Gilbert as a Dawg. Not sure on the other TE though.
I can read between the lines here and tell where we are on Gilbert's recruitment. Very good post here sir.
Gilbert is the most polished, the most ready to impact the game year 1. Hopefully that message has been clear. He’s a TE though and I’m not convinced that he realizes that based on what messaging I believe he’s entertaining. Because of that, you have to question will the physicality show up when he doesn’t have the ball in his hand? That is vital to all positions at UGA but especially at TE.
Taking this a step further, those who are passers and those who effect the passer generate the highest attention and $ in the NFL. Many who understand his skill set will tell you he may be a better DE than TE. DE makes $$$ vs. TE $ in NFL. That no longer motivates him which is fine. Now go from TE to WR when the measurables don’t support it. That doesn’t make sense. While it’s absolutely his prerogative and he possesses talent I could only dream of, you have to question the advice he’s receiving and messaging that’s resonating with him.
Gilbert remains my top choice at the position, followed by Washington/Theo/Large. To my knowledge, the other 3 haven’t placed demands on what the offense needs to look like they just want to see the TE involved more.
I've been saying it for a while, I wouldn't be surprised AT ALL if Arik ends up at UTjr playing WR. I'm a lot less convinced he ends up a dawg than everyone else it seems. Throughout his process and interviews it has never seemed to me that he would be a willing/able blocker. Of course that can change, but it just doesn't seem that he wants to do it.
Every time I want to reply to some comments I keep reading and then see @texdawg reply and he says exactly what I’m thinking. Would post more but dudes reading my mind or something lol
