I know the CBs are showing Clemson as the current leader for Burch but for my money, I'll take @ClemTown 's assessment that they're really #3 behind us and SC. In any case, it's time to get pumped.
If we get Burch we will be #1. Realistically Clemson has a shot at Burch and Flowe among the top 50. UGA is in it for Burch, Gilbert, Washington, Ringo, Evans/Bigsby, Sewell and Harris not counting a couple of flips. Everyone knows I see Zirkel as a 2021 signee so we are 4 commits behind, Adding Washington, Ringo, Bigsby and Sewell would take UGA to a score of 308.13 well ahead of Clemson. If they add Flowe they go to 307.92. They would be left with Burch, UGA would have Burch, Gilbert, Harris and Evans in lieu of Bigsby to significantly improve their respective scores. If UGA gets Burch it's all over.
@Teddy should I exit stage right?
My biggest concern for our fan base is the reaction if we don't finish #1 in recruiting.
As I've said many times before - I get it - but the main thing is that Georgia is going to have an outstanding class.
Singing a 310-320 pt class is outstanding. Above that is incredible.
Enjoy this Dawgnation - whether we finish 1, 2 or 3 this is incredible recruiting.
What is interesting to me is how much three programs are separating themselves from everyone else. It is very likely that 3 schools sign:
9 of top ten
26 of top fifty
40 of top 100
I understand that the concern is that these other two teams remain the greatest obstacle to our ultimate dream. But we are there.
So, a different type of question for @JeffSentell :
Historically, is this somewhat normal that 3 programs have such a high % of the elite talent on their roster?
Is it because these three programs seem to be signing so much talent from across the country and recruiting is not quite as much regional as it probably once was?
i would definitely say we might be on commitment watch for Van Pran
good looks
I didn't even realize finishing #1 was that big of a deal. Who cares?? We're literally signing amazing players at every position.
I think it’s a common trait among college fans that you want to win at everything.
However, in this case, I would take it a step further and acknowledge that class rankings feed perception and build your brand which in turn helps add future value to your class.
There’s a cyclical aspect to it that helps success be self-perpetuating.
I personally think that is a lame way to look at recruiting, although I do understand your point. In my opinion, If we get the guys that we want and the guys the staff wants, that is success, if that results in being #1, ok cool.
The manna keeps falling! Not only are we zeroing in on a top rated class, CKS is attracting Quality Character Gentlemen! The comments on Kendall Milton and Darnell Washington from this weekend are awesome. Kelee Ringo, Mekhail Sherman, Carson Beck and Tate Ratledge are ALL natural born leaders. Look at their positional spread; RB, TE, DB, LB, QB and OL! This class will be talked about for years to come!
I'll admit I'm hooked on ratings so I'll share modern era top Composite is 324.62 (UF 2010) and best average .9459 (Ohio State 2017), which was the number TWO Composite team that year. With the right combination of recruits, this class can surpass both! Go Dawgs!!
Clemson expects to finish with Flowe, EJ Williams, and Xzavier Henderson, which brings the score to 311.88. With Burch that goes up to 318.54.
For UGA, the class would reach 318.74 with Burch and a tentative finish to the class, WITHOUT Dexter, Evans, OR even a single tight end...and UGA is in prime position for 2 5-star studs.
The “tentative finish” I used on the class calculator was Ringo, Bigsby, Sewell, J Conley, Z Walker, A Smith, and Van Pran (I’ve read DN long enough to know what’s good)
So as much as I would love to see CU get the #1 class, I’m also objective and realize that what @SoFL_Dawg has been preaching to the board is very true...UGA may have the highest ranked class ever.
@ClemTown...I know it's been said before, but please allow me to say it again. Thank You for being a reasonable and informative fan of another program/school participating on this site. I look forward to your posts, and appreciate the "non-trolling" nature of them!
I just want 1 Championship. If I can just see UGA win 1 championship in my lifetime, then everything that comes after that will be icing on the cake. Until that happens however I'm going to be a nervous wreck anytime Clemson/Bama are ahead of us at anything as it pertains to college football (recruiting/facilities). When Kirby took over UGA was light years behind both in the facilities race, and that was objective #1. Objective #2 was improve the size/talent on the line of scrimmage. Objective #3 was improve depth, we always had a solid 22, but were vulnerable once injuries/suspensions happened. Kirby has done everything you could possibly ask someone in his position to do in order to put UGA in a position to compete and win championships, and if this was a perfect world, we would be entering the 2019 season as the 2 time defending National Champs, however this isn't a perfect world and **** happens as we have all witnessed the last 2 Bama meetings. whether its 2019 or 2029 Kirby WILL bring a National Championship to UGA. Until that happens however, he will continue to dominate the recruiting trail and keep us within striking distance. anything can happen on any given Saturday, the last 2 years just weren't our years, and this year could be just the same. All I'm trying to get across is just sit back, open a beer, and watch because while Bama has dominated the last 10+ years nobody has seen anything like the machine that Kirby will have once we just win 1 national championship. We are sitting here now thinking 7-8 5 stars is impressive. Wait until Kirby wins just 1 National Championship and see how many 5 stars we sign each year. The state of Georgia is loaded, and with Coley/Hartley we have the pick of the litter in Florida as well. Dell/Pittman can name who they want anywhere in North America. Hopefully Kirby can take a page out of Clemson's book and be able to retain the bulk of this staff over the next 5-10 years. Either way though Kirby will always have great assistants, and most importantly UGA will have him at the helm. This is just the beginning.
Awesome update. Just to clarify, you're not expecting Clemson to end up with Phillip Webb?
If I'm not mistaken, Alabama seems to think they'll land him right now?
