Who was even considering this barely 20 year old guy before the season ?
He just kept getting better and better. He started his big league career last night with 5 innings of 3 hit shutout ball in a 1-0 win.

Looked very good. Fingers crossed for him. How many of our top prospects started great and got hurt this year? Soroka? Fried? I may be missing someone in this list. Was Allard dinged up too? If those kids come back from injury, we might get the starters we really need to fill out the rotation. Hope none of them have to practice punt coverage (lol).

Pete Smith certainly did not fulfill his potential

If we're taking a ride in the way back machine, Steve Avery was considered the best young Braves' pitcher by many before the shoulder injury. That was with Smoltz and Glavine already producing.

Braves had a lot of very good pitchers during the Smoltz/Glavine/Maddux era. I thought that David Nied had the stuff to be the next Avery, but his career died in the expansion draft when Colorado took him. If he had stayed in Atlanta, Mazzone could have gotten a Millwood type of career out of him.

More prospects means more options to trade for some good players with proven history.
