I noticed Washington is listed as an ATH now. Wonder who all is recruiting him as an OLB/DE?
@brentwilson I’m not Denmen but if the process ended today, both Gilbert and Washington would be Dawgs. They are both ours to lose.
Justin Flowe was in town for his visit too. Any news on him at all? I saw something on 247 but I'm not a VIP so I couldn't read it
I agree. WR, RB and TE expect to rotate and there are times one will stay in and the other splits wide. Gronk lined up outside several times in the SB as the offense looks for a mismatch.
@SoFL_Dawg , Mehhh.... Methinks the win now mentality doesn't revolve around a hired hand who wasn't good enough to start at QB for his own school but is somehow goung to ace it at Georgia and leapfrog elite talents ahead of him.
You can get a QB experience while still having them redshirt with the new redshirt rule, the thing that should be done with Mathis IMO is letting him get experience in the two buy games, then saving him in case of an injury for 2019. If Fromm goes out for simple stuff and not a major injury, knocking on wood, then the mailman can take a couple snaps if needed.
@tiger_62082 meh....we’ll agree to disagree. Here’s hoping those on campus will be ready to step into that role. 100% confident Kirby is not going to sacrifice a championship team for the purposes of allowing someone to develop, whoever that is. Those days are over. If they’re not ready to play, or give us the best chance to win, they won’t be on the field. Look no further than the 5 star players and fringe 5 star players who saw little action last year.
This ain’t the same transfer monster either, there will be some really good players with game experience. It is a resource that staff will not hesitate to use if it benefits the team.
The question is do you think he will the starter in 2023 as a red shirt senior? If he is any good he won't stay that long; if he's not do we want to tie up a scholarship on him for 5 years? Red shirting will only give him an extra year if he transfers.
Then how are you going to use him? I don't think we're going to see any Fields type stuff where he comes in to be placated, outside of the buy games I bet it'll be Bennett coming in for garbage time and minor things for Fromm, and it'll only be a major thing that puts Mathis in.
Although I think players develop the most by being on the field, it doesn't make much sense for Mathis to not get redshirted with Bennett coming back.
(should also add, no hate on Mathis but I don't think he's the next Georgia starting QB, I'll be pretty surprised if that happens, based off what I've read and seen I think he'll end up losing to Beck, whether it's in 2020 or 2021 and transferring)
So apparently we're getting a return visit from the TE D Washington. Let me put out a scary thought for y'all....
Let Washington= Gronk and let Gilbert= A Hernandez.. Washington is a big body who is strong and can go up and get it and Gilbert is a quicker better route running split outwide TE
Now imagine them running the same system the Pats ran when they had both of those guys. Two pass catching run blockers in every play. The defense could never guess pass or run. Play action would be unstoppable and the run game would almost always be there.
Scary scary system if they do it
@GeorgiaGirl
Two things:
I simply don't think they're going to prioritize in game developmental time for him outside of the "buys" because in all honesty he might be a 2 year project if he even gets there. Stetson can come in and hand off to wind games down.
Now if we were talking a 5 star, it might be a different story, but this is a toolsy guy that might not even work out.
