@SoFL_Dawg only way i see us grabbing another is if it’s understood to beck that the new guy is a back up and the new guy understands he will be able to compete.

thanks @JeffSentell for the insider info... hey, what are ya'lls thoughts...if fromm leaves early are we in trouble for 2020? I've heard a lot of chatter about Mathis and that he is raw and playing a freshy QB can be dangerous, but also workout ala Fromm....thoughts? @tiger_62082 @SoFL_Dawg @ everyone!!! :D

I don't understand those that seem to be writing Mathis off before he has even practiced (officially). I still am not convinced that we try for 2 QB in 20. Going into 2020 season we will have a true freshman early entry and a sophomore who was also an early entry. An additional freshman QB doesn't seem to add much unless KS is unhappy with his picks. I don't see anything happening re QB2 until after spring practice to further evaluate Mathis and Bennett.

Kirby has said numerous times ideally he’d want 4 scholarship QBs. If Fromm goes pro, there’s Stet, Mathis, Beck...so there’s the option to hunt in the portal, or to take 2 for 20. Not sure how y’all feel but that group is uninspiring as a starter for a championship caliber team and run in 20 imo. Hopefully Fromm stays, but we don’t know if he will yet.

Staff has proven they’re going to build off of worst case scenario and plan for the unexpected. If Mathis has the goods he’ll get his chance, I’m just driving slow on all the praise coming primarily from his weight gain and study habits. I believe that chatter is focusing primarily on turning the page from you know who, more than anything else. Everyone will get their chance but we’re unsure how ready they’ll be.

I cannot help but believe that teams recruiting players from the portal to start at high profile positions will ultimately hurt their recruiting overall. I hope Georgia continues their current recruiting process and develop players within the program. Personally, I would not commit to a school with a track record of starting players recruited from the portal.

I also believe occasionally a player doesn't pan out as expected and emergency stop gaps are needed i.e. Nizialek. I have mixed feelings about graduate transfers???

So afraid transfer process is going to ultimately hurt college sports.

@andrews1253 fair point, long post coming. Lets say a grad transfer QB demonstrates accuracy, ability to read a defense, comes from similar system, and had OK arm strength, athleticism, but the consensus is they are a fringe NFL QB (definitely not a star). They’re interested in UGA because of the talent around them in a one year NFL try out.

Counter to that is we have 1 career backup in Stet (not being mean, just calling it like it is), 1 QB who’s a developmental player in Mathis (high ceiling, low floor), & 1 QB who’s polished as a QB passer but will have never thrown a pass in college SEC level in Beck (probably our best option btw with highest floor).

Does it hurt the program to bring an experienced player in, especially at QB, while allowing others to develop without the immediate pressure of being a preseason Top 5 team, that should be in the CFP? What message does it send to the other 82 scholarship players if staff doesn’t pursue a player that gives the team the best chance to win?

Say what you want about Fromm in 17 but that run to the championship came out of nowhere. There wasn’t any preseason championship hype, we had 2 senior RBs (2 of the best in our history), our best WR came from transfer (ironically), and there was a five star back up QB that already knew the system and had performed in it. Jake was playing with house money and he did well enough to help get the team there. Friends, this ain’t that. It is win now, before questions arise, on what are we doing with all this talent. Bet your ass staff thinks about that. Bet your ass every competitor is waiting to negatively recruit against that. I think it’s unreasonable to place that on an unproven QB unless they’re a generational talent. We don’t have that in our room.

If possible, I'd definitely be all for plucking Trevor Lawrence out of the portal if Fromm goes early.

Unless I miss my guess, Jacolby isn't related to anyone named Pablo. Whatyatink?
