That's most likely a top 10 Sparq score for the entire class.
For a frame of reference
Whitehead
4.5 40
38.8 vertical
41 foot power ball throw
4.40 short shuttle
Average NFL ILB
4.72 40
33 vertical
unsure
seems to be about a 4.3, but that's a guestimate based on looking at a few stats.
Also, I'll find the tweet with his card that has percentiles. . .they were very high.
Edit, got it (click on it to see the full picture with the numbers and percentiles.)
Says right on it - little type - that the score is in the 99th percentile of those tested. So, pretty high.
Those are impressive numbers for a guy already listed at 230. His numbers last year from 247:
2018
4.73 forty
32' vert
4.57 shuttle
Improving the 40 by 2 tenths of a second is impressive and a 6' increase on vert. Dude is explosive
But are we really that big of a favorite for Whitehead? Or are the "gurus" just seeing him explode onto the scene and assume that he will end of at UGA bc he's from Athens?
Looking good for a top 10 spot so far. He would have been 8th overall in the 2018 class (https://www.theopening.com/national-leaderboard) and is currently sitting at 4th, though they haven't added the Atlanta scores and still have 6 more events. For comparison, Pappoe took it last year with a score of 147.12 and Nolan Smith was 4th with 141.18.
Think it’s already time to relay a keep it real message...same message provided to me.
We will have another top 3 class. That class will likely match the number of five stars we took in 18. The offensive side of the ball will be loaded, “hopefully”. Should see 5 five stars on offense alone. As of “today”, that seems likely.
Defensively, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t preparing myself for a let down. DL has been a priority for 18 months. In hindsight, probably should’ve made a different choice on NSD 18, with the 11th hour decision of choosing a WR over DT. As of “today”, mentally prepare not to see Bresee, Murphy, or Burch in this class. Yes, those are THE top targets. That’s as clear as it could be said. Mentally prepare to see them choose CU who we’ll see in PO soon enough.
It appears the alphas on offense are set and targets solidified on priority. Defense, clearly another story. Again we will be fine, top 3 class, and I admit it’s hard to not feel some level of disappointment on DL which remains a priority. So now that this is clearly getting out there we can mentally prepare and not melt down when it happens or be pleasantly surprised if it goes our way.
Have a good week guys...Go Dawgs!
Murphy is the one that hurts the most to me, gotta keep the major in state guys home. It’d be on thing if they went to somewhere like Michigan because they wanted to get out of the state but to lose them to Clemson which is only 45 minutes farther than Athens just sucks. I get they’re the champs but ****...
Bresee is the one that would help the most imo. I like Burroughs a lot and Stackhouse less (but I still like em!), and is be happy with Z. Walker, another 270+ guy (that Florida commit would be amazing), and a project. It’s not what we hoped for, but I don’t think we’re going to recruit elitely at that position until some of our players have big years/get drafted. We could use a big year out of Wyatt and Herring.
Fair points. Bresee is the guy for me, understanding that Murphy is the most versatile and home grown. All we can hope for is a public decision isn’t made until Dec with both. Murphy may lock it down prior to his senior year, and we know what that means. Everyone else is a notch or two below them.
I’d love nothing more to than to see a 5 sack performance opening day in Vandy. Open some eyes from jump.
Very strong surge for Mr. Whitehead of late. Especially for a Georgia kid in Athens.
@Muffingod here is an article Bud wrote yesterday afternoon. Mentions why he changed his CB.
I’m hoping we can get Jarrett to not pick UT that would be a huge win. Speaking on taking bush in 2018 I’ve sandige, I think bush could have a season similar to that of Holloman last year
So we are good with Sherm and flowe?
Thanks @Acrum21 that was a good read. Interesting to say the least, sounds like we’re not out but not leading. Wish he’d come back for g-day and not wait until May. Or come twice 😁
Nothing is set on defensive side of the ball. Maybe one player not named in your post. Good...yes? Will they be Dawgs? We’ll see.
@SoFL_Dawg does this have anything to do with coaching staff flux on defense? Or is CU just winning head to head
Good question not entirely sure. Right now, imo, we’re just losing head to head. It’s no one’s fault (as much as CTS will be blamed). He doesn’t have much of a player success story to sell right now. LB, OL, DB, RB are starting to recruit themselves. WR and DL we need to see some next level, recent success. TE is being sold exclusively on potential and there is a wait and see aspect to both primary targets we’re pursuing.
That said, depth charts certainly look more favorable at CU. Bresee’s camp in particular had concerns about staff continuity but those concerns were said to be put to rest last he and his family came in a month or so ago.
Murphy we’re just getting beat. I had been hinting we were behind CU and AU in recents weeks. That article posted above confirms that. Hiding behind Academics sounds better than, “I just like them better”, especially with mom being an alum.
Bottom line we knew CU would dominate the offseason. Did I see them landing 5 of the top 10 players for 20, no. If it were over today, good chance they’d do just that.
Dabo is notorious for his negative recruiting behind the scenes, but He’s done a great job selling the family feel, and it’s worked for them. “If you shut it down, we’ll shut it down”. That’s not our way, and truthfully some kids and more importantly their families are going to gravitate towards that philosophy.
We just need to get some on campus and August 31st can’t get here soon enough to change momentum. We know our staff prepare guys who aren’t elite, physically/mentally for the next level. Look no further than recent combine performances. Soon, we’ll finally be able to take elite athletes and pair them with physically/mentally rigors of our program to shine for NFL draft. We’re not there yet.
Haven't you heard, we are a national brand now. No need to worry about in-state kids.
I see the point you’re trying to make but when your state is the top 3 in the country for talent yes you need to worry about in-state kids.
