If Kindley and Cleveland are good enough to start in front of Salyer and Mays this year - they will be rated high enough to enter the draft next year - and probably will.
Four guards were drafted in the first two rounds in 2018. In 2017 a guard wasn't taken until the 115th pick.
Pittman is preparing to lose 4-5 lineman including Hayes.
Go to 2020 OT prospects and look at #9. https://walterfootball.com/draft2020OT.php
Thomas has to leave barring massive injury. If Wilson stays healthy he will get strong looks, could slide inside at next level. Kindley graded out as our best O-lineman last year, no injury history, he's really getting overlooked here. So we are looking at replacing AT LEAST 1 but up to 3 guys after this year. Next year, I could see Mays leaving, has film all over the line and should replace Thomas at LT. Cleveland will be RSr so it'll be his last year. Hill will have two years starting experience in the SEC at center, can play guard next level, he could leave in 2020. So either way in two years we are looking at a totally different lineup. Tons of playing time to be sold all over the line
The only redshirt sophomore offensive lineman, which Wilson will be this year, that I can find to enter the NFL draft was Tyler Roemer from San Diego State, who was suspended from the football team and has been accused of emotional and physical abuse. It is extremely rare for an offensive lineman with 2 years of eligibility to leave school early.
Good point. You may be right. All I'm offering is opinion and I'm batting no better than 50% on my opinions. (@ least I hope I'm 50%)
Kids do s.tupid stuff all of the time so who knows. I just can't find an example of a redshirt sophomore offensive lineman leaving school. I was surprised to see several defensive lineman who left as redshirt sophomores. Those just seems like positions where continued physical and mental development is necessary.
Playing devils advocate here, but it’s also a premium position and if he’s healthy he will have two years of starting time on a championship contender. That’s more than enough to get a 1-2 round grade. NFL looks at projected upside and Wilson has plenty of that given his size and skill set.
I do not think him being a redshirt sophomore will matter to him or anyone else come draft time. The main thing would be where he is projected to be drafted. We do not have a lot of examples of redshirt sophomores entering the draft on the Offensive Line because almost none of them have the option to be drafted or at least do not have the option to be drafted in an early round. Wilson will certainly have this opportunity, and was only redshirted in the first place because he had a first round draft pick in Wynn and a likely first round draft pick in Thomas starting in front of him.
Yea, that is not true. Wilson redshirted because he was not ready for the southern heat or the SEC. To his credit, he used the redshirt year to get better but it had everything to do with his preparedness, not the people in front of him
Washington got another CB to bama...
Bama has some selling power to Washington with Irv Smith and OJ Howard.
We are still in this, but if we have to go Plan B+ see Theo Johnson (was at GDay).
I kinda saw the writing on the wall with how hard we seem to be pursuing Theo Johnson
We’re pursuing 3-4 TEs. Knowing who put the CB in here matters. Hank South isn’t accurate with his CBs and JC Shurbert is legit a clown. Anti UGA everything. Bama will be a factor here but it’s a safe bet 90% of the industry would choose UGA if signing today.
I think it’s important to note that it’s like Arik and Washington/Johnson. Johnson is a major target and isn’t considered a backup plan. I’m not sure who’s higher on the board but think all fall behind Arik as the most talented and DSGB.
Maliq Carr would be the backup option I would guess
