He's the Darryl Strawberry of pitchers
I agree with you, and tried to say as much in my post. It would probably be best for his development to work it out up here.
My big point I wanted to make was the Braves are not in a position to let a young guy figure it out up here. We need to win now. If he was struggling a little bit and playing good defense it would make more sense. But he is struggling a ton at the plate and isn’t a good corner outfielder.
This is the 2nd game in the past couple of weeks where Soroka couldn't close out the 5th in a blowout win. His delivery gets off a bit and he struggles. Just 1 more out in each game and he'd be 12-2.
It's not uncommon for physically gifted hitters to start out strong then pitchers learn their tendencies and they struggle. It happened to Frenchy and many others. Frenchy never really overcame it to a high degree. This is what will define Riley as a big league hitter, can he adjust after pitchers have adjusted to him ?
I pointed out Wednesday that Swarzak hadn't given up an earned run till Tuesday over his last 17 appearances and had allowed just 1 inherited runner to score.
After tonight Newcomb has only given up an earned run in 1 of his last 18 appearances and 3 times over his past 27 appearances. Over those 27 games he has pitched 35 innings and his ERA is just 1.29. Add in Webb and we have very good pitchers for the 6th through 8th innings. If we can trade for a closer and move Jackson to a setup role we could have a great pen for the postseason.
We beat Philly and The Dodgers beat Washington. Plus one good guys. We're up 5.5 on Washington and 6.5 on Philly.
Hearing that after getting hit in the wrist, markakis is probably going to have to miss some time. Duvall should be up if that’s the case. Crap luck, this happened to Freddie last year as well.
I know some posters don't think much of Markakis as a hitter, but the lineup will be weaker without him.
I feel like in his absents either Riley needs to play out of his slump or bring up Duvall to play. I’m fine with either in my opinion. Either way Duvall should be in phili tomorrow
I'm a huge believer in the value of high OPS from top to bottom of the lineup. We will get more outs in his spot and it will kill some innings.
Losing Markakis will be a blow, but injuries happen. Hate it for him and the team, but, next man up. Whether that is Duvall exclusively, or a platoon between him and Culberson, he or they will have to produce.
People seem quick to forget Matt Joyce.
Not gonna lie, I did in fact forget about him.
