Why does it bother you that what you think or others or coaches that what’s best for him may not be what he wants? He might be happier playing WR if that’s the case but he’s putting his body on the line and putting in the work to choose what he wants to do. He only gets one shot to go through college why not do what you want?
I’m with you, I also get the feeling he wants to see the field right away. He won’t at WR no matter where he goes. Gonna take him a year and a half to lean up and MAYBE get faster.
It’s unfortunate but im afriaid you’re right. Gilbert IMO will end up at Tenn and will be under utilized until the NFL because if he was wants to get paid he’ll have to play where they say.
@SoFL_Dawg you via staff have a way better idea, than I do of where players are leaning, I just can’t help but think that Beal/AA/JJ could all move on after 2019 for various reasons. Even if they don’t I still think JJ/Grant/Beal/AA/(Cox)/Ojulari will all need to be replaced by the end of 2020. As of right now we’re only taking 1 OLB and that leaves 4-5 OLBs for 2021 cycle, and the only return nolan/Sherman in 2021 with experience.
According to FU fans we’re paying errybody
I’m not angry at the staff pushing him to TE. If they know WR isn’t going to work for the kid, they ought to tell him that.
The reality is the whole "you can be whatever you want to be" hogwash is a lie. When I was little, I wanted to be in the NBA because I watched Jordan and the 90s bulls. I grew up (?) to be 5'9", 150lbs. That won't cut it, no matter how hard I "want to." You can't be whatever you want in life, and you especially can't be whatever you want in sports. You either have the physical tools to play a position or you don't. Ask Butch Jones how far a "five star heart" will get you—"want to" will only get you so far.
It's not necessarily the coaches' job to make sure he's happy. It's the coaches' job to make good football decisions for him and for the team. He might think he wants to play WR now because he's a big fish in a small pond. It'll be different when every DB on the field is the same caliber of an athlete he is and the coaches know that.
If he goes WR, he plays on Saturdays. If he goes TE, he plays on Sundays.
Unlikely any of those 3 leave. If JJ has a one and done year, we’ve probably won the natty anyway. AA has a role and is working at expanding that role. I wouldn’t stress him transferring. Beal probably won’t declare early either.
We’re fine at OLB. If we can only take 24, who do you remove from this mock?
QB (1)- Carson Beck
RB (2)- Kendall Milton & Zach Evans
WR (4)- Marcus Rosemy, Justin Robinson, Corey Wren, Arian Smith
TE (2)- Darnell Washington & 1 of: Arik Gilbert/Theo Johnson/Cam Large
OL (5)- Broderick Jones, Tate Ratledge, Joshua Braun, Chad Lindberg, Sedrick Van Pran-Granger
DL (5)-Jalen Carter, Jordan Burch, Gervon Dexter, Warren Brinson, Nazir Stackhouse/Zykevious Walker
OLB (1)- Mekhail Sherman
ILB (1)- Noah Sewell
DB (3+1)- Kelee Ringo, Jalen Kimber, Elias Ricks, Nadab Joseph (doesn’t count against 25)
K (1 BS)- Jared Zirkel (will count against 21)
Go Dawgs!
According to UF fans they're a playoff-caliber team, too
That mock is sick!
And more importantly, realistic. Staff is the best in the biz.
Honestly. I think I would be just fine with just one TE with Washington and let the rest play out with that mock.
@SoFL_Dawg Jalen Carter has been showin a little bit of love to Bama and the barn a couple of Instagram stories. Is he all Dawg still and just having fun or is there any substance to this?
I believe Arik is a must have from watching his tape in highschool and at the opening he’s just different. Faster then linebackers and more wiggle then people give him credit. I’d have to find a spot on the field for him if I were a coach. No matter what he wants to play. He’s the tightend that will go vertical over bama and outrun dbs. Washington is the bigger sit catch and get 15 yards. Also if you get upset with a highschool kid wanting to play a certain position that he would excel at you need to rethink your priorities. He’s 18 let him try it out then if it doesn’t work move him to tightend. He would be an elite player at both positions.
I'm not questioning what's best for him, I'm just asking why does it bother that he won't listen to what's being told to him from "our" staff. IF UTjr tells him he can play WR, I highly doubt they would say that without a basis however do we truly believe they said he is a WR or that they would like to motion him into a receiver set / split him out wide and we have exaggerated that to him being sold as a WR. These are professionals at the end of the day and they will not get far if proven otherwise. My best guess from our staff and any other staff is he's being sold on being a Travis Kelce type who puts their hand in the dirt but acts like a WR who was Top 10 in receiving yards in 2018.
