Offense play calling
I think the new OC has done pretty good, however I haven't see any toss sweeps or boot leg throws. Say what you want but that 4th and a football should have gone for it. Example LSU last year against us. They went for 5 times and got all 5. You can't play not to lose but also be smart. A win is a win. Go Dawgs.

First of all it was more than a football length. Regardless the fieldgoal is the right call there. You go up by 2 touchdowns. Kirby did the right thing. If he does go there and we dont make it , people would be screaming it was a terrible decision.
Not really. Up by 10=takes 2 tds to beat us. Up by 13=takes 2 tds to beat us. You go for it there and step on their throat. I promise you if Kirby has another situation like that, he goes for it.
Unless Kirby softens here, gonna need to accept that the toss sweep is gone for us outside of garbage time. He warned that he was not a fullback guy and Christian Payne so far is the only guy that was able to crack him there.
You left out the part about up 10, they just need 1 TD and 1 FG, which is a lot easier than 2 TDs.
I didn't leave it out, just said it takes two tds to BEAT us if we're up 10.
The offensive play calling is pretty much lined up with the personnel we have on offense
This is what average Georgia fan isn't getting.
You're not alone in saying it's the right call in that situation, I just disagree. If you want to boost your players' confidence, and destroy the morale of the other team - a la "be aggressive at the University of Georgia" - you go for it on 4th and 1 in the opponent's territory, especially at home. I believe our guys could 've made that happen. I know they aren't the ones actually going around saying they're the "Great Wall of Georgia", but if you can't get 1 yard when you absolutely need it, then you ain't nothin'.
Further, my decision would've been less about that actual play, and more about down the line. We're going to need that confidence AND that push at some point. We almost needed it there, because if ND would've scored on that last hail mary - you know, like Tennessee or Bama, that FG would've looked like the wrong call.
There was an article that came out about how Smart's conservative nature will cost Georgia down the line. I've heard people say that's not exactly true. But it IS true, because it HAS happened - twice. Both the NC and Bama SECCG we lost due to being conservative towards the end.
You can't be a National Championship team and not get 1 yard when you absolutely need it, end of story.
You have to win the games.
We won the game.
When and if we get to the playoffs or the SEC Championship playoff for the playoffs we will have to beat the team we face. Saturday night our only jobs were to scheme for Notre Dame, execute assignments, and win the game.
The 4th and 1 field goal was the right call according to me and according to many. Going for the field goal would have been the wrong call had it failed, maybe, but what was the chance of that with Hot Rod kicking? Going for the first down on 4th and 1 had a significant chance of being an ineffective play (based on what was happening in the game).
There was a big downside if we went for the first down and didn't get it (and not getting it was a reasonably likely outcome).
The field goal was almost an automatic three points. Usually it's a lot better to take the points unless you can't.
As it worked out he wasn't wrong. We won.
In any case, it's an endless argument. We won. Now we have to focus on improving. There are plenty of other teams who will bring their best game in an effort to knock our block off.
Go, Dawgs!
I'm not so sure Kirby will go for it if the same situation comes up again, not that the EXACT situation will present itself again. I really expected to see a more aggressive offense after The Arky St. game, but it didn't happen. Maybe this is just Kirby's M.O.
Maybe this is just Kirby's M.O.
Or maybe its what the personnel dictates. Nah that cant be it
Kirby just doesn't know football I guess.
The truth is we came within a play of losing Saturday. If you have less than a 7 pt lead, you're essentially 1 play away from losing.
bootlegs and toss sweeps lol
Right, if you get stopped there then the momentum is completely in ND's favor and I assume we lose the game.
Needing a touchdown and a fieldgoal for 2 scores is completely different than them needing 2 full TDs
Exactly
