Got it - good to know! I'd love to steal away for a day to fish but would be with the family so not sure if I'd ditch them for a day.
Thanks!
EDIT* - I take it all back...I just looked through the gallery on the site and my wife and daughters may not see me until it's time to go back to the airport
Rome Italy is a good city to visit. Egypt is one that is on my bucket list of places to visit.
Hey, the wife and kids might really enjoy a stay on Alphonse Island!
@razorachilles I chose the Seychelles over Maldives because, although both are expensive, most lodging in Maldives was all-inclusive resorts and very pricey. We found a beachfront villa for a week on Praslin Island in Seychelles for about a third of the price. There also seem to be more options to visit other islands and things to see and do here, although most of our time has been relaxing. Enjoy!
From what I understand the Maldives is a Muslim country, so alcohol is harder to come by - if that matters to you. I heard the food is very good.
Rome is my second favorite city in the world.
maybe!
Good input - thanks! That looks beautiful...the flatness of Maldives appealed to me but I’m reading the outlying Seychelles have a similar set up for fishing, etc.
Looking to break up this potential itinerary with a couple of days in Dubai? Any pro tips there from folks here who’ve been?
Yeah, since your flight to the Seychelles will most likely take you through Dubai, it's a good idea to spend a little time there. I understand it's a very interesting place. I routed my trip to the Seychelles through Johannesburg S.A., so i didn't get to Dubai.
I’ve spent the last 2 years traveling . Best thing I’ve ever done . 6 continents done, was in the south of Patagonia near Antartica, was tempted to charter a boat to get that 7th 😅.
Morocco
New Zealand
Vietnam
Indonesia
Brazil
colombia
all near the top for me
@razorachilles Turkish Airlines has a direct flight from Istanbul to SEZ the main Seychelles airport which is another option to consider. It’s an excellent airline.
Thanks for this tip - I’ve never flown on Turkish Airlines but I’ve been to Istanbul for work and loved it, so that would potentially be a good alternative thanks again!
Has anyone ever been to the Azores Islands (Portugal) in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean?? I'm obsessed with traveling to islands I've never heard of and now planning a trip to the Azores in March
@renner I visited Ponta Delgado in the Azores briefly during a transatlantic cruise in 2012. Very good place to see whales, along with other natural scenery as it’s lightly populated.
Incidentally, the spring and fall one way transatlantic repositioning cruises are amazing travel deals, with all inclusive 14 day trips for as low as $599 (meals, cruise, shows, etc.) Kids often go free with each paid adult and have supervised programs so parents can relax. Plus you can visit unusual places like the Azores!
heres my post about it https://railstales.com/2018/09/27/ten-reasons-i-love-transatlantic-sea-travel/
