Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

Great story! Thank you for your service. My daughter is currently at Goose Creek Nuclear Power School studying to be an ET Nuke. She's volunteered to the sub fleet. Hopefully Virginia Class Nuclear attack sub. Proud of her!
Wow, that's fantastic. Your own little slice of heaven.
Snow+mountains=my happy place.
You're a lucky man
I’m the best poker player I know. 🤷🏼♂️
Good luck to her!
I was fishing for shoal bass on the Hooch below Newnan and above Franklin Georgia and at Bush Head shoals. Every shoalie we caught were chased by huge Stripers and they would sometimes swallow the fish we had hooked on our lines. That was a fun day!
Pizza making (originally trying to copy DaVinci's)
Just curious- do you have a special oven?
I once spoke with Giovanni Di Palma, the owner of the famous Antico Pizza in Atlanta, and he swears the oven makes all the difference. They use a wood burning brick oven that gets up to 1800 degrees (or something like that) and cooks the pizza in about two minutes.
I'm aware that some companies sell special pizza ovens for home use but I've never tried that and don't know anyone else who has.
I'd love a wood pizza and bread oven! I just crank mine and use tiles for a thinner crust pizza and cast iron skillets to start deep-dish on the stove before transferring to a somewhat cooler oven (~425) to cook through.
I don't know if I've been "great" at anything in a long time, but I'm "pretty good" at a lot of stuff. Mostly, I just have a lot of hobbies these days.
Seems like there are a lot of musicians on Dawgnation
Interesting! Would love to get your step-by-step instructions on how to make a great at-home pizza using every day equipment.
Maybe I can start a pizza thread in the near future? We seem to have some serious cooks here.
Whoa, that's a nice setup! I've got my guitars, amps, PA, mics, etc but researching a 4 track digital recorder...nothing fancy. Any recommendations?
unfortunately, all the gear you see there is at least 10 years old, and has been in storage for a while. Moved last summer, and I have an office now. I don't work from home (at least not in a way that requires a dedicated room,) so.... it's slowing turning into daddy's play room. I'm just now getting it set back up, and have to relearn how to use half of it.
I never really focused on recording. I mostly just mix stuff for myself and jam on top of it.
I tried DJ'ing a few parties for fun a few years back. I realized quickly that I don't like playing music for other people. It ends up being about what they want to hear and not what I want to hear/play. That ain't why i got all that stuff, if that makes any sense.
I would recommend starting with the free software. Figure out what you want your software/hardware to do and go from there. If you're a Mac user (I'm not,) I hear good things about GarageBand. There's also a limited version of Pro Tools that is free. Pro Tools has been a go-to induistry-standard for a long time, but the full suite is subscription based, can be considered pricey, and may be overkill if all you're trying to do is capture a couple of tracks and sync them. Try the free version, see if you like the interface, go from there. Try Audacity too. If you don't have a drummer, Ableton has been a stable for crafting beats for a long time. There's a limited version for $99.00. FWIW, i use Traktor Pro 3.0 to cut and mix my music library to jam on top of, but it's more geared toward DJing and scratching (the vinyl you see in the picture is actually digital timecode that lets me scratch mp3s from my computer without having to damage a real record.) I don't think Traktor is what you're looking for. However, if you want to go really crazy, Native Instruments (the company that makes Traktor) has one of the most expansive FX/Synth/Effects systems out there.
I've been getting into ham radio recently as well, and even it's been going digital the past few years. The more electronic hobbies i get, the more I want to get the minimal number of hardware pieces I need to interface to my laptop and let the software do the rest of the work. YMMV.
Don't get me wrong though, i can still use the 5150 and Marshall cabinet to piss of the neighbors dog at will.
Preesh, didn't even think of going in that direction but it's a good idea.
And I totally get what you're saying. Regardless of the playlist I put together or songs I work on, the buddies I jam with inevitably just want to play their own thing....makes for a sloppy session, so I just do what makes me happy...and pisses off the neighbors.
These days I'm using a Line 6 which is good for the money & will make your ears bleed but can't beat that epic sound of a 5150
