I hate using the word loose when I mean lose, but my finger dont always do what my brain tells them to do.
All good brother! (That's why I gave you a friendly rebuke rather than a rude remark.)
3) Breakout year = Justin Schaffer
Enjoy the podcast edition on my commute home each evening, BA...thanks to you & the DN cast for a great way to pass the long ride home from the city (90 mins +).
1 - Not overthinking this one - Lanning
2 - LSU...one would expect LSU to have a national championship hangover, but I'm not convinced Mac Jones is capable of winning the SEC nevermind a national title. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Saban lose to UGA in Week 3, then have a few too-close wins vs Ole Miss, Arkansas & Mississippi State before losing at LSU. I think LSU will be better than people think and look to them to return to Atlanta.
3 - Bold Prediction (or at least a good made-for-TV movie plot): Newman's named starting QB, makes a big splash in his debut on the national stage vs Virginia (3 rushing TDs and 2 passing 2 TDs) and leads UGA to victory in Tuscaloosa...people are talking Heisman and the SI cover is asking "Can Anyone Stop Georgia?".
Fast forward to 5-0 Georgia taking on Auburn at home - Newman falls awkwardly in the 3rd quarter vs Auburn, limps through the remaining quarter and a half and Auburn breaks our hearts at Sanford on a last second FG. MRI reveals Newman has a season-ending injury while media & fans rail against Kirby for not going to Beck earlier when Newman was clearly not at 100%.
Enter Carson Beck (stage left) - shaky but serviceable performance in a run-heavy gameplan to beat Mizzou on the road; then returns home to Jacksonville and leads UGA to a 4th quarter game-winning drive to beat UF as the replay booth shows a dumbfounded Mullen squinting at the jumbotron pretending to chew gum as he loses to UGA & Kirby yet again.
Lanning's defense gets better with each passing game, as does Beck...with Carson ultimately leading UGA to both the SEC and CFB championship as a Freshman. Zamir White and George Pickens are named MVP of the SEC championship and national championship games, respectively.
Before everyone laughs...just remember that truth is indeed stranger than fiction.
Go Dawgs!
From Seth Emerson concerning Lanning:
1 -- I think the safe bet is Lanning, and it will probably be in the next year or two.
2 -- Bama is the obvious choice. Auburn always seems to be good so it wouldn't surprise me to see them win it if they get a few good breaks.
3 -- Bama and Clemson will not make the CFP. Yep I think we will keep Bama out and Clemson will slip up this year.
Regarding your bold prediction: Ouch, but I can tell you've been a Georgia fan for awhile.
I'll skip to 2 and 3....
2) Texas A&M They return a lot of players including Mond. Bama will be stunned after losing to us and instead of rallying the troops, things will start to unravel and there'll be all kind of rumors about this being Saban's last year...blah, blah, blah. That'll be just enough distraction to give the Ags the edge to take them down when they play. LSU is a one-hit-wonder, and Auburn is just Auburn...not good or deep enough to hang with the big dawgs yet.
3) Clemson loses twice this year....at Notre Dame in November. And to North Carolina, who wins the ACC and goes to the playoffs. I already made this prediction on another thread, but before you start laughing, just keep in mind; Sam Howell set freshmen records at QB for the Heels. They return 10 players on O, and all of their losses were by a TD or less, with a one point loss to Clemson in OT. You heard it here for first....
UGA/North Carolina Round 1......Ohio St/Notre Dame Round 2
The responses to yesterday's questions were great to read. Thanks for making this fun. Here's today's BA Q&A. I'll be looking forward reading more of them on air...
1 -- Who is the best UGA RB of the last decade?
2 -- Who is the "must sign" 2021 recruit?
3 -- Have you ever taken less money in order to get a better job?
Thats a hot take there on Clemson there. Lawrence year 3 will probably be special though. Think CU runs the table next year easily.
Also year of tape on Howell. Look for that sophomore slump up there.
