Not to mention the inevitable spike in suicides and likely wide-spread riots and violence as all those millions of food, beverage and entertainment industry employees go without work indefinitely. Unemployment rates are about to go through the roof.

Well, it's Tuesday morning, on Saint Patrick's Day. Happy Saint Patrick's Day y'all!!! Things are pretty much at the slowest I have ever seen here in San Diego. My wife is home with our four kids as school is out until April the 6th at the earliest. They have already stated that might be extended out even further, so stay tuned for further updates. My job here at Salk Institute is slowing down on the lab side of the whole social distancing thing, but my own group of watch engineers here in that collectively we are charged with the task to "babysit" the science monitoring temps, and conditions, as well as the mechanical equipment, and the rest of our buildings systems and infrastructure... we aren't going to slow down at all in my daily tasks. I want y'all to know that really DO enjoy each, and every one of y'all in here as a personal "escape" from the daily doom and gloom of everyday global news. Well, the Covid-19 pandemic has certainly changed a lot of that, hasn't it? I continue to pray for each and everyone in here in our Dawgnation forum, and then also around the world too.

@pgjackson That is unfortunately the truth, as the economic impact is already being felt here in our own folks in dawgnation forum. Prayers for all of y'all (myself included) to get through all of this.
It's not that simple and it doesn't just stop with a couple of bills being missed. There is a legitimate debate of what costs more lives in quarantining the world vs free economy and dealing with it's spread. In fact, we might have a great comparison. The UK is quarantining 70yos and up, but for the most part everyone else can go about their daily business. So spread rates vs other countries will be interesting to see.
How can I answer that? Maybe if we could tell the virus to only infect those who feel it’s overblown, only take their loved ones. Maybe then we can say, it is or isn’t worth it. I’m not worthy to determine the value of human life. That’s above my capacity. Think about the numbers if they don’t take this action. Some models indicate 2.2M lives; is that worth it? Sure it’s unlikely but still...
Not sure how many times it can be said, or how many different ways it can be said, we don’t know what we don’t know. We anticipate a mortality rate of 3%. What if it’s 30%? I get the financial concerns, hell I was a finance major at UGA. Health is your worth though. We need these next 2-4 weeks to get a better handle on what’s actually happening.
When I bought insurance for the previous business I worked at there was always a business interruption clause in the policy that covered the business having to close down for any purpose. Do businesses not purchase this clause any longer?
Unfortunately, it is quite likely I have Covid-19 as I am showing symptoms and have a clear pathway of transmission from confirmed cases. However, my doctor's office told me this morning that there are not enough tests and unless my sympotms are life threatening, I can't get tested. They also said that if I were to get tested, I would be put in a room with people waiting for the test and would be "almost assured" of getting Covid-19 by being in the room waiting to get tested with others who have it.
My symptoms are not serious and I am young enough (46) and healthy enough (I compete at the world championship level in triathlons) that I will be fine whether I have it or not. I do find it alarming that my doctor's office told me they have received hundreds of calls from folks who show symptoms but do not meet the criteria for testing.
I hope all of us self-quarantine not because the majority of us will fall victim to a pandemic, but because the elderly in our families are vulnerable to Covid-19 and when we take precautions we help them.
CaliDawg - praying for you. Hope you shake this off. Kudos for you for being in such good physical condition when the crap hit the fan. I am sure that has to be helping you today...

#1 How the CRAP is there not millions of cases in India right now? There are 1 billion people living right on top of each other there, not far from China... But it's hot there all the time. Gotta be a good sign?

Seriously, I'm happy that you have nobody in your life that you worry or care about. Not having that burden on your conscience must be quite nice.
First, I am ok. Make your prayers for the elderly in all of our families. I share my story not out of alarm or panic because that is not what I am feeling. I share it to help us all have up to date information.
In regards to your questions, I think if/when the disease hits India, India will have a big problem due to population density. I also believe India is more or less a competitor and not a supplier to China and thus the spread from China to Korea, Japan, Europe and the US is more direct.
West Virginia has a less dense population and perhaps less international business dealings. That has probably helped delay any spread to WV. But, I am only speculating about my answer to both questions, please don't take either answer as a statement of fact.
First confirmed case was just announced in my county with at least 32 more pending tests. Those who work in the lab next door to mine got sent home and the lab got shut down because someone called in sick. Because of this, two geniuses who worked in that lab yesterday with the person who called in sick and didn’t get the memo decided to come work in my lab for about 15 minutes before they got sent home as well. Sigh.
