Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

Losing my mind. Bars and restaurants are being shutdown and made to be an example of dangerous behavior all over the country. Atlanta imposed a 50 person limit just last night, but then the news (Fox5) was out shaming bar owners who were open tonight even though there less than 30 patrons in just about any of them.
Yet Marta remains open, moving (their numbers) 432,900 people every single day. Makes PERFECT sense.
What a futile exercise. This will put millions of people out of business.
@YaleDawg I realize this is inconvenient, but in that Italy to US comparison, how many of Italy’s cases included people who were brought in off their cruise ships and/or evacuated from China?
the majority of our first 500 cases involved the above scenarios.
Tons. Thousands of people. Literally. Soon to be hundreds of thousands. Perhaps millions of people - AND THEY AREN’T EVEN SICK.
What does this mean in regards to the actual mortality rate of the virus, and the incidence of serious illness? Anything?
Thinking of you and your fiance @SAVDGD - wishing a smooth journey through all this.
Totally unproven and no data to support at this point in time but Dupixent is a monoclonal antibody (mab); and there are several companies fast-tracking studies on various mabs as a therapeutic option for patients who have been hospitalized with COVID-19 to combat the progression of the disease in the lungs.
@YaleDawg - given the high up front cost of developing biologics - as well as the need to recoup the high costs for other therapies that ultimately failed clinical studies - the biologics @SoFL_Dawg references are very expensive relative to other drugs in the pharmacy at a typical hospital. Even under "normal operating mode" (ie - not in the middle of a pandemic), the high cost of this inventory makes it prohibitive for most institutions to carry much of these products in inventory; with many of these drugs now capable of being shipped to/self-administered by patients in their homes.
Fast forward to the current impact of transportation, free goods and evolving public policy positions by governments and the logistical challenges of moving large quantities of any drug manufactured in one part of the world to another becomes increasingly challenging, as well.
As an aside, I'm personally pleased with the HHS' decision to grant liability immunity to developers of COVID therapies for emergency use.
>>The declaration provides liability immunity to covered individuals and entities “against any claim of loss caused by, arising out of, relating to, or resulting from the manufacture, distribution, administration, or use of medical countermeasures.” More specifically, the declaration covers “products or technologies intended to enhance the use or effect of a drug, biological product, or device used against the pandemic or epidemic or against adverse events from these products.” The Covered Countermeasure must be a qualified or epidemic product, or security countermeasure, or a drug, biologic or device authorized for emergency use.
The liability immunity applies to “Covered Persons” with respect to the administration or use of Covered Countermeasures. The declaration defines “Covered Persons” as “manufacturers, distributors, program planners and qualified persons, and their officials, agents, and employees, and the Unites States.” The declaration further defines “manufacturer,” “distributor,” “program planner,” and “qualified person.”<<

Hope you get back to full health soon @CaliforniaDawg. Also, world class triathlete? That's bad.ass. Kudos to you. Much respect. Will definitely serve you well under the circumstances.
Please don't turn this thread into another personnel argument. People are sharing good info that others are appreciating. I understand your point of view and you are entitled to your opinion but this is not the place to argue back and forth. Send him a PM with your concerns.
This goes for everyone else as well. Please don't turn this thread into personal arguments.
Germany Day 3 update: So the family and I are good but someone in the building is showing symptoms and they have been tested and are awaiting results. As a consequence about 10 people have been quarantined. However one of them decided to come in to work today and had to be removed from the building. Not sure if more have to be quarantined now. We work in a enclosed building with no windows or openings to the outside world. (The building is an old Nuclear Shelter.) So once the virus gets in we are pretty much screwed. Really dumb decision by that person.
The German government has ordered all businesses to close that are non-essential. Only things allowed to open are gas stations, grocery stores, pharmacies and restaurants but no sit in dining. Going to see the economic impact of this pretty soon. Had a coworker who's wife flew back on Saturday and Delta informed her that the last flight from Delta to America was on Monday. TBD on when service will continue. Also hearing rumors from individuals who know local Germans that work in the hospitals that the virus is hitting really hard but the government is hiding the numbers in an effort to reel in panic. Not sure on the truth of this but it does ring a little true. Probably somewhere in the middle, i.e. waiting on results from testing. Feels like i'm writing a novel or movie as I type this.
Take care everybody and Go Dawgs!!!
Edit: Just got an update that the Covid DOD cases at Ramstein have risen from 1 on Monday to 5 today.
Checking in to say we are checking out. My son got his appointment last night to move his stuff out of the dorm. Disappointing end to his Freshman year on campus...
Keep on keepin' on. Off topic, but you have been able to visit a lot of the surrounding towns and cities? I've always wanted to check out Mainz but never got the chance.
Hadn't seen anyone else here mention their current UGA son/daughter...our Freshman daughter got hers last night, too. With apologies to T.S. Eliot, "This is the way Creswell Hall ends, not with a bang but a whimper" (I'm told they're either demolishing Creswell or renovating it this summer, but the end of an era either way).
Understanding that this is all uncharted territory for everyone - including UGA - but they told us no one would be able to arrive on campus until the 29th and now it's "hurry up, be out by the 27th!". Wouldn't be a big deal if we were a 2 hour drive away, but we live in NH.
As for a COVID update from the northeast - my office is in the technology area of Cambridge which has become Ground Zero for COVID outbreak in Massachusetts (First 70 cases were linked to 3 executives at Biogen who returned to the US from abroad and spent 3 days in an extended org meeting unknowingly infecting dozens of colleagues. My company had its first employee test positive this past weekend while multiple offices & manufacturing sites around the world have also started to see positive tests. Our company ordered all non-continuity employees worldwide to work from home until further notice this week.
There have been a few articles about Generation Xers being the adults in the room when it comes to the COVID pandemic: wedged in between the Baby Boomers (my 77 year old Dad lives with us and just recovered from pneumonia 3 weeks ago and still doesn't think he shouldn't go to the senior center to shoot pool every day as he likes) and the Millenials/Generation Z (kids constantly trying to rationalize "but it's just me and my 3 or 4 best friends and NONE of them are sick!"). In the end - many of us find ourselves responsible for the well-being of our parents and our kids during this period. Still feeling blessed to have us all together, even if 3/5 of the faces at the dinner table look like they're filming a hostage video.
I've been lecturing my son all night about how he can't go play basketball with his buddies down the street just because they are also home from college. I also have to keep saying to my parents (70+), no we can't come over, no I don't need you to watch the kids, what part of social distancing is hard for these guys to get!? Gen-X 4 life.
Hey, don't lump us millennials in with those Gen Z kids. Back in my day...
This is my second posting at Ramstein. I have lived in Germany for a total of 8 years with another 2 to go. I have been to quite a few places over this time. Been to Mainz a couple times. I really enjoyed it. I don't hear people talk about it much but we checked it out on a whim and were quite happy we went. The old town by the river is really nice. The cathedral is amazing and worth visiting. Also stumbled upon the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz. I had no idea it was there and it was really worth the visit. Got to see one of the first bible's ever printed and my kids got to participate in the demonstration on how the press actually worked. They got to print a page and they let them take it home. All and all definitely worth it but I wouldn't spend a week there. Really good day trip as you tour around Germany.
Sorry, Off topic I know, but just answering his question.
After this pandemic dies down where are some places in NH I can take my wife for a weekend trip?
I feel a little selfish in even mentioning, given the issues that so many others are facing, but please permit me to vent a bit. I'm the proud father of a UGA senior daughter and my heart hurts that she lost her graduation and didn't get to say goodbye to her friends at school. Her feelings have run from not understanding, to angry, to sorrow. She loved her time in Athens and is a Dawg through and through. Next year she will be off to UNC to further education but she feels like she was shorted her senior year. Again, I know, in the grand scheme that this is a little bit of an inconvenience, but it hurts my heart for my youngest. Take care everyone and stay safe.
This is precisely the place to have these comments. Nothing better than senior year second semester and yes in the grand scheme it's not a big deal, but it's a big deal to her for sure
Yeah I feel ya. I feel bad for all the High School Seniors as well. Some of them lost their last chance to ever play the sports they love in a true competitive environment and with their teammates. Not to mention not being able to walk for graduation. For me it wasn't a big deal but my parents were super happy to see me walk. A lot of parents may not get to see that either
Hey man. It was a legitimate question. Asking questions is not starting an argument. For it to escalate, HE would have to be the one to take the next step. Is he allowed to post whatever scary statistics he pleases, without being questioned regarding if his numbers are skewed or misrepresentative? C’mon.
