funny little story with those. The landing gear is notorious for not locking into place on landing (they land like a helicopter). So when they come in to land airmen have to run out and throw mattresses out to cushion the landing. Maybe they got it fixed by now but the maintainers I knew always complained about that.
Update in Indiana: Glad I started work from home last week. Found out a coworker has been diagnosed with COVID-19 which means my social distancing has now become a full blown 14 day quarantine. I work in a large office for a huge company, and they dragged their feet closing the office, and now a whole lot of us have been exposed. So far, no one in the house is exhibiting any symptoms, but I have a 9 month old baby with a respiratory condition that makes him high risk. Naturally, we are taking every precaution. We have made our doctors aware, and are monitoring him closest. The forts we built over the weekend still stand. Kids have no yet implemented the lord of the flies rules, so I am safe for now. I have been instructed to continue to work until we suspect someone in the house is sick, at which point we are to focus on recovery and isolation. Unreal how these processes work out in real life. Stay well out there my dawgs.
Your name and that comment remind me of the only German I know, because my dad used to say it all the time as a joke, "Vas ist los mit der Luftwaffe!?!"
we've had to update the song. "Nothing will stop the US Air Force except lightning within 5 and covid 19"
Keeping you and your newborn in my prayers (!)
I like some was skeptical at how bad this was, realizing that my son has an autoimmune disease(eczema but still) and that he could be at higher risk caused me to take 2 weeks vacation. I work in the service industry and our stores are staying open. I’m staying home for the 2 weeks but not sure what I’m going to do when the 2 weeks is over. It’s either go to work and separate from my family or go without pay. My wife is a school teacher so thankfully she’s able to take care of our son. Hopefully they can find a cure quickly. Say what you will about this administration but I think closing travel from China 10 days after reports likely prevented us from being much worse off now. We may still get there but hopefully people take this serious and we can knock it out quickly and get back to normality.
Also I got a bunch of socks with no match if anyone is running short on **** paper. $25 a sock /s
Testing is key.
On the Georgia Department's website only around 1500 people have been tested for Covid-19. From this group we have all our confirmed cases.
But that probably also means that there are many thousands more Georgians infected but currently asymptomatic roaming about.
I'm not so much concerned for kids and young adults, most of them seem to have mild or no symptoms at all. Who I'm concerned about are their middle-aged parents, and grandparents. My parents and inlaws are up in age, and looking at the mortality rate among the elderly is a little frightening.
If they contract the virus they have about the same chances of surviving it as surviving a game of Russian Roulette. The chances the wife and I, being middle-aged, is pretty good, but still I'm not liking the exit numbers from the confirmed cases. I realize that's not a great way to determine mortality rate, but when you're seeing exit states resulting in not insignificant numbers of deaths its a bit unnerving.
I expect the numbers here to really spike over the coming weeks. I hope I'm wrong.
Maybe this has been discussed, but it has been reported a 31 year old member of the UGA athletic dept has tested positive. My wife says they said on news they are hospitalized and on a respirator. Though, can’t confirm the last part.
I wonder what the RO number is there?
Don't know what RO means
How many people an infected person will go on to infect
Yeah, bro. My folks are in Lafayette and haven’t left the house in 3 days. In Sac, we just got “sheltered-in” about 20 minutes ago.
I feel it. I, too must go in to work tomorrow and will be solopiloting the office.
The governor stated today that he believes that 52% of the state will contract it within the next 8 weeks.
Really have no idea. How would one find out?
The guy had been in Panama. Returned to Nicaragua on Sunday. Fell ill on Wed..
All ok with us here in VA. Hunkering down. Having sports withdrawals.
Another nice morning in the Upstate of SC. Like a lot of less populated places in our country, it hasn't seemed to blow up here yet. That's the key, I think. It needs to blow up in different places at different times to help the medical world cope. Hoping the social distancing does just that - delay what may be inevitable. It has been WARM here the past couple of days, and will get into the 80's today. We will see what temps do to this thing eventually. Don't expect it to end, just hoping and praying for any type of reduction in transmission - anything to help the percentages. We are a week into things changing here, and day five of the schools being out. If the 14 day timeline is pretty accurate, I feel like - in places like this - we will have a greater grasp on what we are fighting in less populated areas.
Other parts of the country will not be so lucky, and I pray for them! Other parts of the world as well. But I am thankful for today, ask for daily bread, and will soak up this time with my family. Stay safe, my Dawgs.
Funny because it’s true. I never realized how much of my distraction time is dedicated to sports; this website and soccer this time of year. It’s a weird void.
My wife has been on Plaquenil for a year. Wonder if the shortage of this will effect her?
It sure will. I am the contracting officer and buyer for my pharmacy. There is NONE available to purchase through our Prime vendor or secondary vendor. The best get well date was 30 April but that will change if Bayer ramps up production.
Hanging in there in Dallas. Bored as hell. This is what I'm seeing on the recruiting trail during this pandemic.
Although recruiting is in a dead period.....recruiting hasn't stopped. I have received over 100 emails today from various schools asking about kids. And the players that are old enough to hear directly from colleges are hearing from coaches quite often as well.
Things are changing quickly but it looks like the summer camps will be pushed back.....at least a month. Still up in the air.
Right now camp season is from 5/31 - 06/22. May be pushed back a month.
July is usually a fairly slow month for college coaches. Probably won't be this year. I expect HS camps to be on campuses in July and then fall camps starting in August. That is non stop for coaches.
Stay safe and wash your hands.
so I want to start by saying I know this is really hurting and negatively impacting a lot of people, both at home and abroad. Small businesses, employees of those companies, folks who work in and support the medical industry, etc. More than I can name. It is a lot of stress, pain, and for some a legit medical threat. I do not want the rest of my post to underscore or diminish that. And luck/timing plays a part because there are many times in my life where this exact scenario would have really hurt me. I think, just in general, we often under value "luck" in our successes in life
That said, and of course only so far as things could change, this virus has not negatively impacted me at all and I honestly have greatly benefited from it. I already work from home 3x a week so the transition to 5 days a week was no obstacle and something many employees have been asking for. I only have one kid and he is 10 so I am not facing the same challenges those with toddlers and younger are facing. He does his school work on the iPad, entertains himself, and it has been a joy to have even more time with him. At lunch we walk the dogs, throw the football, etc. My wife is still going into the office but she is in management, works for a home medical equipment company (respiratory therapist, primarily) and so there is a great demand for their services. No risk of furloughs or unemployment. She will be transitioning to working from home next week. Just the above I am incredibly blessed and fortunate.
We are comfortable for food and basic needs for at least a couple weeks, thanks to deep freezer/costco membership. Nothing to do with the virus, we would be just as comfortable 3 months ago. That is a blessing just being where we are in life.early 20s me would not be so fortunate.
before the virus got all crazy in the USA, which happened pretty quickly the last couple of weeks, we had our house on the market. that Monday we checked on conventional 30 year rates and we were quited 3.5%. That is with 800+ credit score. That Friday we listed our house, had someone tour and make and offer, and we accepted. I called the lender and rates were down to 3.25%. Saturday we toured a house, made an offer, and they accepted. Monday we called the bank to lock in our rate and it was down to 3.125%. We locked that in (I understand it dropped after that but we are still very happy with our rate.) We close both on the selling and buying of the houses next Friday the 27th. Movers are secured, barring something else that happens.
so I have been given more blessings and received more good luck than I deserve or could have earned. I hope some of it rubs on everyone I come across (which isn't many people these days!) and surely hope it continues for my family.
